Indian Railways has barred for two years Jakson Ventures Private Ltd (JVPL), one of the largest and oldest suppliers of diesel generators in the country. Jakson is the authorised dealer for US-headquartered diesel genset maker Cummins Inc. Government officials aware of the development said JVPL had forged documents certifying earnest money deposit (EMD) as bank guarantee in a bid called by Central Periodical Overhauling (CPOH) Workshop of the Indian Railways in Prayagraj. Responding to queries from ET, Jakson Group said JVPL is an independent legal entity, which has filed a writ petition in the Allahabad High Court against the Railway Board order.

However, two names were conspicuous by their absence – Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan. Iyer, who had a Grade B contract, was part of the Test side for the first two matches against England before being dropped for lack of runs. He had some issues with his back and went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for treatment. However, despite being declared fit by the NCA, he informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that wouldn’t be available for the Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Baroda saying that he was suffering from back spasms. Since then, though, he has joined the Mumbai squad for the semi-final against Tamil Nadu starting from March 2.

Northern Railway zone launched a 15-day long special drive from February 25 to counsel the loco pilots and assistant loco pilots to strictly follow norms regarding stabilising engines after working hours. A written instruction, addressed to chief loco inspectors (CLIs) and lobby in-charge of various stations, detailed the recent incident of driverless running of a freight train for about 75 km between Jammu and Pathankot and said the present counselling drive aims at avoiding recurrence of such incidents in future. It directed the CLIs to train the loco pilots and assistant loco pilots that instead of coming out of the engine and leaving it unmanned, they should hand over or take over the charge inside it.
