Footwear trends are bringing the 1990s back this summer
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. While Y2K has dominated the conversation for seasons, the defining footwear of 2026 requires turning the clock back even further. This summer, we are stepping away from the heavy, chunky silhouettes of the recent past in favour of the refined minimalism of the 1990s. The look is decidedly editorial, sleek, intentional, and balanced by a playful sense of kitsch. The kitten heel has made its triumphant return, offering a sharp but sensible elevation, while mules and satin ballerinas have reclaimed their status as it-girl staples.

Kerala: Muslim League expresses displeasure over Priyanka Gandhi's absence during Waqf Bill debate
Indian Union Muslim League has expressed dissatisfaction over Wayanad MP and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi's absence during the discussion of the Waqf Amendment Bill in Parliament. Suprabhatham, the mouthpiece of Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama, criticised Priyanka Gandhi for not attending the session while the bill was being debated in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. The editorial, published on April 4, called her absence a «Black Mark» and also raised questions about where Priyanka Gandhi was when the BJP was advancing the bill, which they believe undermines the fundamental rights of Muslims. Additionally, it questioned why the opposition leader, Rahul Gandhi, did not speak on the bill, which they claim affects the nation's unity. The editorial further acknowledged the opposition parties, including Congress, TMC, and Left, for their collective stand against the bill in Parliament under the INDIA alliance.

Simultaneous polls' push a bid to deprive people of 'other' religions from voting rights: Sena (UBT)
simultaneous polls, claiming polling will be eventually conducted by excluding people from «other» religions from the voters list under the guise of electoral reforms. An editorial in the Shiv Sena (UBT) mouthpiece Saamana claimed the BJP wants only one party to survive in the country and that the «one party one election» is its ultimate goal. Referring to Donald Trump, the editorial stated that while the US President wants to stop Latinos, black Americans, and immigrants from voting, similarly, in India polling will be conducted by excluding people from «other» religions from the voters' list and this will be labelled as election reform. It also pointed to the executive action signed by Trump on Tuesday to overhaul elections. The order makes the documentary proof of citizenship necessary for registration to vote in federal elections and demands that all ballots be received by Election Day. «India is the world's largest democracy, and the US is the strongest democracy. However, it is evident that the roots of democracy are so weak. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump have no faith in democracy and the freedom of expression,» the Shiv Sena (UBT) said.
