Action President country classical reports Department Donors, Alumni Helped Take Down an Ivy League President. Is This a Moment or a Movement?
The recent resignation of University of Pennsylvania President Liz Magill was a rarity in higher education—outside forces had stormed up the ivory tower and dethroned a leader. It was an uprising years in the making. The events that unfolded were, on their face, about inconsistently applied free-speech protections and antisemitism, after the presidents of Penn, Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology failed to say unequivocally that calls for genocide of Jews would violate their school’s harassment policies during disastrous congressional testimony.

IPO Target Action Experts stage information IPOs week FII flows, 11 IPOs, Accenture results among 8 factors likely to influence D-Street this week
Dalal Street, and market experts see them riding indices further higher in the near term. Last week’s rally was driven largely by foreign inflows, which will be essential for a sustained up-move in the market. After the 7% gains clocked in by Nifty 50 so far in December, technical charts, however, suggest that the market has entered into an overbought zone, and some cooling off to that extent is warranted. “From a technical standpoint, the Nifty is maintaining its bullish momentum, marked by a breakout from a flag formation. The immediate target stands at 21,700, with the possibility of further upward movement to 22,000, although some consolidation may follow,” said Santosh Meena, head of research, Swastika Investmart. On Friday, the Nifty 50 ended at a record closing high of 21,456.65 points with 1.3% gains. While the outlook for the secondary market remains positive, the action is likely to be more in the primary market as a plethora of IPOs are scheduled to hit the Street. Here are a few other factors that will drive the momentum for markets in the coming week.

Action Inside No link between suspension of MPs and security breach: Om Birla
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla sought to draw a distinction between the recent incident of security breach in Parliament and suspension of opposition MPs, saying that there is «no association» between the two. Three days after two visitors jumped from the visitor's gallery into Lok Sabha chamber, Birla wrote a letter to all the MPs that a high-level committee has been constituted for an «in-depth investigation» of the incident and another high-level panel for reviewing security of the Parliament complex. In the two-page letter, Birla cited various similar incidents that happened in the past, including when some MPs carried pepper spray in the House. He underlined that on all such occasions, the House expressed collective resolve against such incidents. He reiterated that it is Parliament's responsibility to formulate a detailed action plan on security measures in accordance with MPs' suggestions. Talking about the suspension of MPs, Birla said linking it with breach of security was 'unfortunate' while asserting that there is «no association» between the two. On December 14, a day after the security breach, 13 MPs all belonging to opposition parties were suspended from Lok Sabha for disrupting the proceedings of the House.
