From Alexander to Napoleon, Gaza's cycles of death, destruction and revival
Gaza remains one of the world's top flashpoints. In a region characterised by political instability, fratricidal conflict, and geopolitical tensions, Gaza holds its own special niche, for its 4,000-years-old history predates the current Israel-Arab tensions of the 20th century. Its position as a key land bridge between Asia and Africa led to it becoming a constant battleground over the centuries and witnessing repeated cycles of destruction and revival. Across the centuries, the tread of Alexander the Great's Macedonian phalanxes and two centuries later, of the Roman legions, the pounding gallop of the Crusaders, the center of Mongols' mounted archers, Napoleon's Frenchmen, the British (bolstered by their Indian Army contingents including the Hyderabad and Mysore Lancers, as well as the Australian Light Horse) echoed in the region. Yet Gaza was not always an epicentre of battles and conflict — and spent long periods of prosperity and renown as a trading hub and seat of culture and learning. The first records of human habitation in Gaza dates to the Bronze Age in 3300-3000 BC when the Ancient Egypt built a fortress at a site south of present day Gaza City amid trade with what is now Israel. There were several spells of existence, destruction, and revival in the epoch and human settlements finally ceased to exist at the end of Bronze Age (c.

Amid higher scrutiny from G7: Diamond trade in rough, exporters looking to China
G7 countries putting constant pressure on the Indian diamond trade on the origin of rough diamonds that the country cuts and polishes, exporters are now seeking to step up sales to China, which has slowed down its diamond purchases in the past eight months. Cut and polished diamonds are a major foreign exchange earner for India. India's diamond exporters are expecting demand from Chinese buyers for the country's cut and polished diamonds at the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair, which is being held from September 20-24.

New Certification Aims to Mitigate Antimicrobial Resistance Risk in Antibiotic Manufacturing
Certification to the Antibiotic Manufacturing Standard will be a clear sign that manufacturers in the global antibiotic supply chain are taking necessary steps to ensure antibiotics are made responsibly, helping to minimize the risk of releasing antibiotic waste emissions into the environment. This follows the publication of the globally applicable industry standard in June 2022. The standard was facilitated by BSI for the AMR Industry Alliance, an organization made up of over 100 companies and associations from across the life-sciences industry with the shared goal of providing sustainable solutions to curb AMR.The new certification, developed by BSI to support the Standard, will offer independent third-party verification that waste streams containing antibiotic active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) and drug products are appropriately controlled during manufacturing by pharmaceutical companies.
