CISF sets up 'quality control' unit for civil aviation security
CISF has set up a quality control unit to «enhance» the «operational efficiency» of its aviation security wing that provides a counter-terrorist cover to 68 civil airports of the country. An spokesperson for the paramilitary force said on Saturday that the Internal Quality Control Unit (IQCU) will play a «crucial» role in establishing «world-class» security procedures and technology for the airports that are used by lakhs of domestic and international passengers every day. The initiative is in compliance with the National Civil Aviation Security Quality Control Programme (NCASQCP) of 2024 issued by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Aircraft (Security) Rules of 2023, he said. The BCAS, under the civil aviation ministry, frames security policies for the Indian civil aviation sector.

IndiGo drags Mahindra Electric to court for trademark infringement of its 6E code
InterGlobe Aviation, which runs the largest airline IndiGo, on Tuesday moved the Delhi High Court alleging trademark infringement of its Air Transport Association code ‘6E’ by Mahindra Electric Automobiles. The airline accused the automaker of using the mark ‘6E’ in its upcoming electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) Mahindra BE 6e, which it claimed to be similar to its trademark ‘6E.’ Mahindra BE 6E, which has generated buzz for its unique design and tech loaded features, is expected to hit the roads in February next year. While Justice Amit Bansal recused himself from the hearing the case, senior counsel Sandeep Sethi informed the court that Mahindra had reached out to the airline on Monday and an effort was being made to discuss the matter.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has sent a notice to Akasa Air for failing to impart corrective training to a pilot who was responsible for a hard landing, according to people aware of the development. A hard landing occurs when an aircraft lands at a velocity beyond the manufacturer's permitted limit. DGCA rules mandate that after investigation is completed in such landings, the pilot should be sent for corrective actions like additional training in simulators. Sources cited above said that an Akasa Air flight from Bagdogra to Bengaluru was involved in a hard landing incident in March.

The aviation technology company was incubated on the corridors of IIT-Kanpur in 2018, with the objective to provide world-class drone technology that is best suited for both defence and civilian applications, it said.

Airlines received 994 hoax bomb threats this year till November 13 and robust protocols are in place to handle such threats, the government has said. To deal with the menace of hoax calls in a comprehensive manner, the civil aviation ministry plans to amend the Suppression of Unlawful Acts against Safety of Civil Aviation Act, 1982, and Aircraft (Security) Rules, 2023. A total of 1,143 hoax bomb threat messages/calls were received from August 2022 till November 13, 2024, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol informed Rajya Sabha on November 25.

domestic air passenger traffic grew 5.3 per cent to 1.36 crore in October from 1.26 crore in the same month last year, aviation regulator DGCA's monthly data showed on Tuesday. During the reporting month, budget carrier IndiGo carried 86.40 lakh passengers, clocking a market share of 63.3 per cent, followed by Tata Group-run Air India and Vistara, which flew 26.48- lakh and 12.43-lakh travellers, respectively. Air India numbers include the number of passengers flown by its low-cost arm Air India Express, as per data. Air India merged its subsidiary AIX Connect with its low-cost international budget arm Air India Express on October 1 this year. The merged entity named as Air India Express now operates as the low-cost arm of Air India.

Air India is setting up an aircraft maintenance training institute in Bengaluru that will offer an integrated 2+2 years aircraft maintenance engineering (AME) programme certified by aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). The purpose-built basic maintenance training organisation (BMTO), spread over 86,000 square feet at Bengaluru Airport City, is expected to be operational by mid-2026, Air India said in a release. The country’s leading global airline group has signed an agreement with Bengaluru Airport City Ltd (BACL), a subsidiary of Bangalore International Airport Ltd (BIAL), to develop a build-to-suit facility for the AME programme that will feature modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories for practical training and a team of qualified trainers.
