manufacturing giant Boeing is facing a huge crisis, having received orders for only four new planes in May. Orders for its once-best-selling 737 Max have almost dried up since an incident in January, in which the side panel of an Alaska Airlines aircraft blew out mid-air. The crisis, however, was not entirely unexpected.

Revision of GST rules to make India's MRO industry competitive
revision of goods and services tax (GST) rules is likely to bring relief for India’s aircraft maintenance and repair industry which has for long been trying to take advantage of the booming aviation market in India. Last week, the 53rd GST council recommended a uniform 5% tax on imports of parts, components, testing equipment, tools and toolkits of aircraft, irrespective of their HSN code. HSN, or Harmonised System of Nomenclature, is an internationally acceptable numerical code used to classify products for taxation purposes.

Astronauts Wilmore and Sunita Williams' homecoming yet again delayed by NASA
NASA astronauts Barry 'Butch' Wilmore and Sunita Williams, have to wait for some time to return home as they are still stranded on the International Space Station while NASA is trying to leave no stones unturned in bringing them back home. However the timeline for their return has once again seen a glitch from the top space agency. According to The Telegraph's report, NASA has mentioned that more time is required to review the spacecraft that is responsible for bringing them back home as the thruster malfunction it was facing has still not been entirely resolved. Moreover, the spacecraft has reportedly seen helium leaks, that is primarily causing the delay in the first place, says USA Today.

Intention of Centre to levy GST on petrol, diesel; states will have to decide on rate: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said the intention of the central government has always been to bring petrol and diesel under GST, and it is now up to the states to come together and decide on the rate. She said a provision has already been made by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley by including petrol and diesel into GST law. What is remaining is for the states to come together to discuss and decide on the rate of the levy. «The intention of the GST, as was brought in by former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, was to have petrol and diesel in GST. It is up to the states now… to decide on the rate. The intent of my predecessor was very clear, we want petrol and diesel to come into GST,» Sitharaman said. When GST was introduced on July 1, 2017, amalgamating over a dozen central and state levies, five commodities — crude oil, natural gas, petrol, diesel, and aviation turbine fuel (ATF) — were included in GST law but it was decided that it would be taxed under GST at a later date.

Musk Black: The colour maketh the man
Tesla annual shareholder meeting with Elon Musk, the man at the centre literally stood out as much in his black t-shirt and four-pocket tan grey safari jacket as much for the bigger battle of perception he had just won. Musk Black has always been his favoured colour. It accentuates his Roaring Twenties ‘Armani black suit-iridium white shirt’ power chic, as well as casual t-shirt and sheepskin aviator flying jacket look. The two blacknesses are complementary, lying outside the frivolous binary of formal-informal other 21st businessmen seem to insist on flaunting. ‘Women think of all colours except the absence of colour. I have said that black has it all. White too. Their beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony,’ is how Coco Chanel saw the ying and yang of couture colours. To think that Musk, Texan and as un-Coco as Coca-Cola can get, is blind to such aesthetics is to make a cardinal error in both business chic and powerplay of taste.

Explained: How heatwaves disrupt flight operations and may cause mid-air turbulence
Delhi to Bagdogra was delayed due to high ground temperatures, which affected flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. This has resulted in delays as safety guidelines are followed, sometimes requiring flights to wait for wind speeds to stabilize. A senior official from the Ministry of Civil Aviation told ANI that that high temperatures cause the air to become thin, impacting the lift required for aircraft to take off, especially during takeoff and initial climb. This can also cause mid-air turbulence for passengers. In extreme weather conditions like high temperatures and high winds, aircraft only proceed after getting clearance from Air Traffic Control (ATC). To mitigate the effects of high temperatures, airlines may adjust operations by reducing fuel or baggage, and in some cases, even offloading passengers.

With this move, the DGCA aims to increase the number of women in various positions to a desirable representation of 25 per cent by 2025 within the aviation industry in India, said the circular.
