SpiceJet’s counsel has cast doubt over the maintainability of Aircastle’s petition as the latter had filed a separate petition under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (IBC) against the Gurgaon-headquartered carrier. The counsel for Aircastle has argued that both petitions deal with separate cases of default by SpiceJet. The second case is listed for hearing on April 22.

The surveillance system will ensure that every good sold in the retail market meets the standards for which a licence was issued, and also that only authorized products are manufactured, the people added. If deviations are noticed, manufacturers’ licences may be cancelled, and they may also have to pay hefty penalties.

Reserve Bank of India has given approval to the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) Bharat BillPay Ltd to implement an interoperable payment system for internet banking transactions, governor Shaktikanta Das said on Monday. “We expect the launch of this interoperable payment system for internet banking during the current calendar year. The new system will facilitate quicker settlement of funds for merchants,” Das said during a digital payments awareness event organised by the RBI. Internet banking, one of the oldest channels for online merchant payment transactions, is a favoured channel for payments like income tax, insurance premiums, mutual fund payments and e-commerce, but the current system faces certain challenges, Das said.

MUMBAI : Customers will soon be able to pay businesses through net banking irrespective of whether their banks and the merchants’ payment aggregator are integrated, with the central bank ironing out one more wrinkle in India’s rapidly evolving digital payments ecosystem. “We have given approval for implementing such an interoperable system to NPCI Bharat BillPay Ltd. We expect the launch of this interoperable payment system for internet banking during the current calendar year," Reserve Bank of India governor Shaktikanta Das said on Monday.

NEW DELHI : Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is looking to enter pumped storage projects (PSP) for hydro power as it focuses closely on clean energy, two people aware of the plans said. The company's subsidiary Reliance New Energy is scouting for sites for the projects, the people cited above said on condition of anonymity. PSPs use cheap green power during off-peak hours to lift water to a height and release it into a lower reservoir to turn turbines that generate electricity when the demand for electricity goes up.

MUMBAI : Top officials of the government and the central bank will meet on Monday to figure out a way forward on the vexed issue of bank exposure to alternative investment funds (AIFs), two people aware of the matter said. Officials from the department of economic affairs, department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT), MSME ministry, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and banks will attend the meeting, the people said on the condition of anonymity. The government stepped in because apart from AIFs from private firms, several AIFs have been floated by central government ministries and state governments to pool funds from state-owned banks.
