India is considering setting up an underwater biodiversity research lab to study the different kinds of flora and fauna on the seabed, and at varying depths, to explore their potential for human consumption. The lab, part of the government's long-term vision of making India a developed nation by 2047, is being conceptualized under the Deep Ocean Mission and will be set up in the Indian Ocean. It seeks to make India a transnational and regional hub for marine biology and biotechnology research. The treaty will establish in international law a new disclosure requirement for patent applicants whose inventions are based on genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge. This will also offer added protection to Indian generic resources and traditional knowledge in countries that don't currently have disclosure obligations. The signing of the treaty on Friday capped two decades of negotiations. It was adopted at the multilateral fora with a consensus among more than 150 countries, the ministry said in a statement.

The massive beams that framed the structure were fashioned from European oak trees harvested 300 to 400 years ago. Today, these trees are common throughout north-central Europe, but few are tall enough to replace Notre Dame's roof lattice and spire, thanks to centuries of deforestation.
