LONDON (Reuters) — Bond exchange-traded funds (ETFs) gathered an annual record of $300 billion of assets under management in 2023, BlackRock (NYSE:BLK) said on Wednesday, as investors were lured in by the highest yields in decades.

Quiver Quantitative — In a strategic shift for 2024, major financial institutions including JPMorgan (JPM) and Morgan Stanley (MS) are projecting that U.S. investment-grade bonds will outperform speculative-grade, or junk, debt for the first time in four years. This outlook aligns with the anticipation of interest rate cuts and a decelerating economic environment. Bank of America (BAC) echoes this sentiment, favoring higher-rated bonds due to the expected challenges in credit markets, including rising rates, fluctuating earnings, and bond issuance dynamics.

Shares of crypto-adjacent companies rose Tuesday while the price of Bitcoin skyrocketed above $45,000, its highest level since April 2021, as anticipation of a spot exchange-traded fund built.

The comeback of Japanese shares was a result of multiple factors, including improved corporate governance, something the country's regulators have been working on for over a decade in hopes of stimulating investment from abroad. BlackRock this month reaffirmed its «overweight» position on Japanese equities for the next six to 12 months.
