The cryptocurrency bulls are back again. Bitcoin surged to US$44,000 on Dec. 5, its highest in nearly 20 months, marking a dramatic 150 per cent rise so far this year. After losing more than 60 per cent of its value in 2022, its climb back has sparked yet another wave of euphoric calls: industry veterans now project the token will breach US$100,000 by the end of 2024, and at least US$750,000 by 2026. Competitors including ether, dogecoin, solana and cardano are all up by double-digit percentages, too.

Bitcoin traded close to $44,000 after notching its longest winning streak since May, a rally driven in part by expectations of looser monetary policy.

BlackRock and Bitwise have recently updated their filings for spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). These frequent amendments may signal pivotal progress.

On November 20, 2023, a critical meeting was held between the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and representatives from BlackRock, Inc., and the Nasdaq Stock Market LLC. The meeting's primary focus was the discussion of the iShares Bitcoin Trust and its potential listing on Nasdaq as a spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF).

BlackRock, the world's preeminent asset manager with over $9 trillion in assets under management, has recently filed for a Bitcoin spot ETF. This move sent shockwaves across the financial world and prompted other industry giants like Fidelity, Invesco, Wisdom Tree, Bitwise and VanEck to follow suit. The development is ironic considering BlackRock CEO Larry Fink dismissed Bitcoin as little more than an index for global money laundering in 2018. The market celebrated BlackRock's change of heart, propelling Bitcoin's value past the $35,000 mark, up 100% since the start of the year. An Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) is a versatile investment vehicle that has gained immense popularity among investors. Unlike a traditional stock, which gives you ownership in a single company such as TCS, Infosys, or Wipro, an ETF is a diversified collection of stocks or other assets. Imagine a basket named TIW that holds shares from TCS, Infosys, and Wipro. This basket is then listed on a stock exchange like the NSE, making it accessible to the general investing public. The term «Exchange-Traded Fund» is derived from the fund's ability to be traded openly on an exchange, just like individual stocks.

Tata Power: Has won the bid to acquire Bikaner-III Neemrana-II Transmission, a project special purpose vehicle set up by PFC Consulting, a subsidiary of Power Finance Corp. The project will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer basis to provide transmission service for 35 years from the scheduled date of commercial operations, which is 24 months from the date of the SPV acquisition. The project cost is estimated at ₹1,544 crore.

Bitcoin surpassed $40,000 for the first time since May 2022. In the early hours of Monday morning, the token added about 1% to trade at $40,005 on Monday in Singapore, taking its 2023 jump to 142%. Before the TerraUSD stablecoin collapse, Bitcoin was last at $40,000, contributing to a rout in digital assets.

World Bank is working with a club of 15 finance bosses to lower the risk of investing in climate projects in emerging economies and attract private capital for cutting emissions. Ajay Banga, the World Bank's president, said the Private Sector Investment Lab is focused on «figuring out a model of originate-to-distribute» that would allow for deep-pocketed investors to put up large sums for climate deals. The creation of a «securitizable asset class in these kinds of investments, where large pension funds, large players like BlackRock will find a very attractive place to put billions to work,» is a key target, he said at the Bloomberg Business Forum at COP28. PSIL, which launched in June under the auspices of the World Bank, also includes BlackRock Inc.'s chief Larry Fink, AXA SA Chief Executive Officer Thomas Buberl and Noel Quinn, head of HSBC Plc. The group is focused on specific approaches that the World Bank can implement after years of struggling to mobilize the vast sums of money needed to help developing countries adapt to climate change and transition to clean energy. The World Bank has also stepped up action on other fronts, including allowing some vulnerable countries to potentially pause debt repayments and hosting a fund for climate damages. Shriti Vadera, who co-chairs PSIL, said the group is working on financial guarantees because these are «the most efficient and most well-known and used form of credit support.» The PSIL has looked at first-loss and whole-portfolio guarantees, said Vadera, who is chair of Prudential Plc. The goal is for the World Bank to «create a much more simplified set of guarantee products that can be used across different markets,» she said.

The contractual waiver may be terminated prior to that date, the firm said, but only upon written agreement.

Investing.com -- Shares in companies with ties to the cryptocurrency industry rose in premarket U.S. trading on Friday, buoyed by the price of Bitcoin touching its highest level since May 2022.

Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed announced on Friday the establishment of a $30 billion climate fund for global climate solutions that it hopes will lead to $250 billion of investment by the end of the decade. Dubbed ALTERRA, the fund will allocate $25 billion towards climate strategies and $5 billion specifically to incentivise investment flows into the Global South, according to a statement by the COP28 Presidency. In collaboration with global asset managers BlackRock, Brookfield and TPG, ALTERRA has committed $6.5 billion to climate-dedicated funds for global investments, including the Global South, the statement said. ALTERRA was established by Abu Dhabi-based alternate investment manager Lunate, and COP28 Director-General Majid Al Suwaidi will serve as ALTERRA's chief executive officer.

Bitcoin, the trailblazing cryptocurrency, has recently witnessed a surge in its value, trading over  $38,000 with a over 0.50% increase on Friday. This spike is partially fueled by MicroStrategy’s strategic move to bolster its Bitcoin reserves, involving a substantial $750 million stock offering and a notable $593 million acquisition of Bitcoin.
