IL&FS is in the process of recovering approximately Rs 187 crore from the directors and independent directors of the previous board, during whose tenure the company and its two subsidiaries — IFIN and ITNL- were shown in profit through financial engineering, though they were in loss. Earlier this year, books of accounts and financial statements of IL&FS, IFIN and ITNL were recast on the directions of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) for five years — FY 2013-14 to FY 2017-18- and a loss of around Rs 9,600 crore was found. Originally, a profit of Rs 1,869 crore was shown by the previous company management and board, which the government later superseded following revelations of irregularities that shook India's financial sector.

For the first time ever, the bank has said in no uncertain terms that it would apply for the licence no later than March 2025. In his first ever media interaction after taking the driver’s seat, managing director Sanjeev Nautiyal discussed with ET's Atmadip Ray the business decisions that are taking shape at the bank's headquarters in Bengaluru. Executive director Carol Furtado also joined the conversation. Here is an edited excerpt: Q. Ujjivan is one of the just two small finance banks eligible to apply for universal banking licence at this point of time. AU has already thrown the hat in the ring. What is Ujjivan up to? Sanjeev Nautiyal: We are working on a plan and within this financial year, we see ourselves in a very good position to make an application to the Reserve Bank of India. Has the Ujjivan board approved it? Sanjeev Nautiyal: The board is agreeable to the fact that we should apply. We are building a strategy based on the guidance provided by the board.

Suresh Gopi and two others for «misusing» an ambulance during the Thrissur Pooram festivities in April this year, police said on Sunday. The Thrissur East Police on Sunday registered an FIR against the Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism, Abhijith Nair and an ambulance driver in this regard. Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC and sections 179, 184, 188 and 192 of Motor Vehicles Act were imposed against them, police said. The case was registered following a complaint filed by K P Sumesh, a local CPI leader, seeking legal action against Gopi for allegedly misusing an ambulance to reach the Pooram venue flouting police restrictions.

Naval Tata’s association with Jamsetji’s family through his mother (a niece of the founder’s wife) is known but a direct bloodline between him and Jamsetji has not previously been documented.

The driver then allegedly said he was only getting $18 for the ride and requested to cancel the ride and be paid the full amount in cash.
