markets Citi Manufacturing Volkswagen economy Audi country Audi announces massive job cuts, sends big message to luxury car industry
Audi said Monday it will cut 7,500 jobs by 2029 in Germany, citing «immense challenges» as the country's auto industry battles slowing electric vehicle demand and rising Chinese competition. The cuts — amounting to about eight percent of Audi's global workforce — were aimed at boosting «productivity, speed and flexibility» at its factories in its home market, the manufacturer said. «The economic conditions are becoming increasingly tougher, competitive pressure and political uncertainties are presenting the company with immense challenges,» Audi, a subsidiary of Volkswagen, said in a statement. It is the latest bad news from the ailing auto sector in Europe's biggest economy, which has been hit hard by a stuttering shift to electric cars, fierce competition in key market China from local rivals and weak demand. Audi, headquartered in the Bavarian city of Ingolstadt, said the cuts would be in areas like administration and development and be carried out in a «socially responsible» manner, meaning there would be no compulsory redundancies.

markets UPS Citi Metro wellness Cycling stage Prashant Thakur predicts strong demand for both redevelopment and greenfield projects
«If you look at Mumbai, the entire city was dug up a couple of years back and we are seeing that all these infrastructure projects that started are seeing day of the light and that is why we are seeing a flurry of activity in the peripheral areas, where a huge amount of development are coming up, thanks to the connectivity,» says Prashant Thakur, Anarock Group. Let me firstly ask about Mumbai because that particular market and the region has seen a lot of redevelopment activity, especially if you talk about prime areas like Worli. And not just Worli, let us talk about the suburbs as well, there is constant redevelopment day in and day out. If you could help us understand what is exactly driving this transformation, how do you see this impacting the overall real estate trends in the city? Prashant Thakur: First of all, if you talk about Mumbai, or let us say MMR as a whole, it accounts for 45% to almost 48% of value of real estate sold across the top seven cities in the country. So, undoubtedly, it is kind of powerhouse when it comes to residential sales. And there are several factors apart from being the financial capital of India, the huge amount of job opportunity it generates, it has also seen a huge amount of infrastructure upgrade.

markets Citi Provident wellness poverty show isolate Why financial investments, and not your cherished antique collection, will make for the best inheritance gift
antiques, paintings, chinaware and jewellery. Why was he unhappy? Inheritance is money one has not earned. Not everyone is pleased with the windfall. There was a time when the outlook for the future seemed bleak in the minds of the younger generation. Widespread unemployment, poverty and scarcity made many believe that becoming rich was tough, if not impossible. We now live in times when the younger generation is more confident, positive and capable of earning and living well. So, don’t they need their parents’ wealth? Wealth is welcome, but not as unconditionally as before. The younger generation is not desperate, eager to grab what has been left behind, and devise quick ways to use it. If feeling guilty about the largesse seems surprising, being confused, exhausted and isolated is real. Imagine inheriting a bungalow full of stuff that one has to spend days sifting through. One does not even know if something is valuable, and whether there is a market for a seemingly exotic painting.
