Why higher Fed rates are not totally off the table
Federal Reserve to raise interest rates again, and officials have made it clear that they see further increases as unlikely. But one important takeaway from recent Fed commentary is that unlikely and inconceivable are not the same thing. “In the next bull run, I guess that NBFCs might perform well. Fundamentally, upside potential is a minimum of 15% to 20% in most of the NBFCs,” says Shrikant Chauhan, Head of Equity Research, Kotak Securities. In an interview with ETMarkets, Chauhan said: “If the interest rate cycle starts turning downward in the 2nd quarter of FY2024 then there could be a specific buying interest in the sector,”. Edited Excerpts: Markets have started picking momentum after the initial fall despite geopolitical concerns. What is your take on markets? Shrikant Chauhan: Post some dip in March 2024, the equity markets have regained momentum. India’s macro-economic data points like GST collections and manufacturing & services PMI have been healthy.

Amid no-show Q4, IT investors scout for silver linings
Motilal Oswal Financial Services expects HCL’s FY25 revenue growth to be near the upper-end of its guidance band, which will put the company ahead of its large-cap IT services peer set barring Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (TCS), which is executing the mega BSNL deal, and LTIMindtree Ltd. “While we expect some near-term pressure on the stock on account of weak FY25 revenue growth guidance, we continue to expect the stock to outperform its peers," wrote Motilal’s analyst Mukul Garg in a report on 27 April. In the March quarter (Q4FY24) results announced post-market hours on Friday, HCL saw muted consolidated CC revenue growth of 0.3% sequentially. That said, itskeyIT and Business Services CC growth at 4% was ahead of consensus estimates.Further, new deal-wins at $2,290 million rose year-on-year and sequentially.

Double-digit growth seen in IT sector in 2025, 2026 and 2027: DD Mishra, Gartner
DD Mishra, VP Analyst, Gartner, says, “in 2024-25, we see that AI-led growth is going to come and AI has to play a very critical role. In 2023, AI spending was around $3.5 billion, but we are expecting that this thing is going to grow in 2024-25 significantly. There are other challenges and CIOs are struggling and in this situation, they take a lot of consulting support as well because they do not know what they do not know and this is where they depend on the consulting services which has been growing significantly. We will see disruptions in the short term, but the long term outlook is positive.” Just wanted to get a sense from you with respect to the earnings read through and the commentary that we have heard from the management of the Indian IT majors. It lacks the confidence that a recovery is around the corner. They are still non-committal about it. However, the forecasts coming in from Gartner have been improving consistently. What kind of outlook are you witnessing with respect to client spends, discretionary spends and the pace of ordering. DD Mishra: The way we look at it, there are two perspectives of it. One is the larger perspective where we see how the next four to five years are going to change around IT and that looks quite promising because we see that in 2025, 2026 and 2027, we are going to see double-digit growth and there is no cause of concern as of now.

Get set for a bottoms-up market in first half of FY25: Amit Khurana
Amit Khurana, Head of Equities, Dolat Capital, says for the next few months, bottoms-up stock picking should be the preferred mode and look out for names either showing signs of turnaround or names which have visibility even though you may have to pay a little bit of a premium on the valuation side, but the momentum continues to be supportive for those sectors or stocks. You were slightly cautious on the market and by mid of March that caution played out, however, it was short-lived and the market rebounded. What is your current prognosis of the way the earnings season is panning out? Did you request the clients to buy that dip or are they still sitting on the sides? Amit Khurana: Yes, the correction did play out which we were anticipating but the depth of it and the breadth, I did not come as much as one would have wished for.

Financials, auto, pharma, and healthcare to drive Q4 earnings: Rahul Bhuskute
«Wherever there have been dips, the market has been bought into, sectors have been bought into, stocks have been bought into,» says Rahul Bhuskute, Bharti AXA Life Insurance. You guys at Bharti AXA Life, what are you making of the broader market resilience which has come back, that entire negativity triggered by some commentary from AMFI on stress test of the mutual fund small and midcap, plus, of course, regulator comments on froth in that pocket, all of that appears to be getting digested. You think valuations are comfortable now to get in? I think, yes, you spoke about market resilience and that has really been the heartening feature of this market. One could make that argument that valuations are higher on a historical basis or compared to other emerging markets, etc, but the market has shown resilience.

‘Virat Kohli lost touch, did not hit…’: Sunil Gavaskar's scathing attack during SRH vs RCB match
Virat Kohli started the innings aggressively with Faf Du Plessis, but after the wicket of his opening partner and the subsequent end of the 6-over powerplay, the veteran batsman seemed more focused on taking singles rather than hitting the big shots. Moreover, the experienced batsman did not hit a single boundary after the 4th over mark and instead scored the next 28 runs of his innings at less than a run a ball even as Rajat Patidar continued to hit the SRH bowlers for boundaries and sixes. Speaking about Kohli's inability to hit the big shots during commentary, Gavaskar said, “It's just been singles, singles and singles from Kohli.

IT may remain under pressure for next 3-6 months; 3 large & midcap cement picks: Siddhartha Khemka
Siddhartha Khemka, Head-Retail Research, MOFSL, says on a long-term frame, the order book continues to remain strong, the business model is good but in the near term next one or two more quarters of pain is there to be endured by long-term investors. So, for someone looking from a three-six months’ perspective, IT could continue to remain under pressure. What is your opinion of the market right now? Siddhartha Khemka: We continue to remain positive on the overall outlook on the market. We have seen the result season so far being more or less in line to better than expectation, barring some sectors like IT, which has been kind of weak. Consumer was not expected to be very strong, but there was a hope that the commentary would come around the recovery post the monsoon which the IMD has given a forecast of above normal monsoon.
