Ramanujacharya was born in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, in the year 1017 CE to Asuri Kesava Somayaji and Kanthimathi. He passed away in the year 1137 CE at Srirangamin, merging with the Supreme Soul. Before being known as Ramanuja, he was called Lakshamana. He hailed from the South Indian Brahmin community and is considered one of the greatest spiritual thinkers in Hinduism. As a follower of Vaishnavism, he was deeply devoted to Lord Vishnu, dedicating his life to his worship and embracing monkhood.
Ramanujacharya established centers and organized temple ceremonies to promote the worship of Lord Vishnu and his consort, Shri or Mahalakshmi. He played a pivotal role in the Bhakti movement and the Vaishnavite tradition.
