China's territorial ambitions: Threat to global peace and stability
China's insatiable territorial ambitions and blatant disregard for the sovereignty of other nations have become a grave threat to global peace and stability. The country's recent audacious move to assign Mandarin names to 30 locations in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh is a stark reminder of its brazen tactics to lay claim to territories beyond its borders. This cartographic aggression is part of Beijing's long-standing strategy to rewrite history and normalize its illegitimate territorial claims. It is the fourth such list of names released since 2017, following Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Arunachal Pradesh in March – a move that prompted China to lodge a baseless diplomatic protest, asserting that the state belongs to them. China's claims over Arunachal Pradesh stem from its belief that the state is part of «Zangnan» or «Southern Tibet,» a region it considers an integral part of its territory. However, this belief is rooted in a flawed understanding of history and a blatant disregard for India's sovereignty.

Poll campaigning missing in Manipur amid violence
Manipur parliamentary seat seems to have turned into a bipolar contest between Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh of BJP and Angomcha Bimol Akoijam of Congress. The high decibel campaign that this seat witnessed in past elections is missing as the situation remains tense in the northeastern state that has been engulfed by ethnic violence since May last year. In fact, chief minister N Biren Singh recently had to tell his party workers to engage with people and that there is nothing to fear.

BJP yet to announce names for 12 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh
BJP is yet to announce candidates for 12 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, including high-profile constituencies such as Rae Bareli and Mainpuri, represented by Sonia Gandhi and Dimple Yadav, respectively. Several factors are at play with the BJP looking for new candidates in some constituencies, while at the same time, trying to keep caste equations in its favour, in several other seats. These 12 constituencies also include Balia, Ghazipur, Machhlishahr which borders Prime Minister Narendra's seat Varanasi in eastern Uttar Pradesh, Kaiserganj, Firozabad, Prayagraj, Bhadohi, Deoria, Kaushambi, and Phulpur. In Kaiserganj, represented by former Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the BJP is considering replacing him with one of his family members. Wrestlers, hailing from the Jat community in Haryana, had protested against him in Delhi and hurled several allegations against him. Jats are an influential votebank in Haryana and can impact at least eight of the ten Lok Sabha seats. But Singh is adamant on contesting again from Kaiserganj. He enjoys influence in the neighbouring constituencies as well. Similarly, in Rae Bareli, BJP is opting for a wait and watch strategy to see if someone from the Gandhi family contests from this seat.
