Provident Cooper Citizens Southern community Videos Seeking 75pc quota limit is intellectual bankruptcy, says Ambedkar attacking Sharad Pawar
Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi chief Prakash Ambedkar on Friday slammed NCP (SP) supremo Sharad Pawar for seeking the raising of the quota cap in Maharashtra to 75 per cent. He said the demand was a sign of Pawar's «intellectual bankruptcy» and asked when quota benefits will be extended to the cooperative sector, which is dominated by leaders from the undivided Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress. «This is intellectual bankruptcy. Reservation is not a development issue. It is a representative one,» Ambedkar told PTI Video. Speaking in Sangli, Pawar had asked why Maharashtra cannot have 75 per cent reservation when Tamil Nadu is allowed to keep the limit at 78 per cent in consideration of various communities in the southern state. Ambedkar said seeking 75 per cent reservation is akin to running away from the responsibility to provide citizens secure lives. Speaking about Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, the VBA chief said the former must contest elections or else no one will trust Maratha leaders anymore.

markets community Justice exclusive Discrimination Schools Courts SC strikes down rules facilitating caste discrimination in prisons
Supreme Court on Thursday put an end to caste-based discrimination in prisons dubbing it unconstitutional. A bench, headed by CJI DY Chandrachud, directed the central government to make changes in the jail manuals that perpetuate such practices. The bench ordered that the caste column and any reference to caste in undertrial and/or convicts /prisoners/ registers inside the prisons shall be removed. The bench ruled that such a jail manual, which discriminates by assigning cleaning and sweeping tasks to lower castes and cooking to higher castes, is in violation of Article 15 (which prohibits discrimination against citizens). SC directed the Centre to make necessary changes to address caste-based discrimination in the Model Prison Manual 2016 and Model Prisons and Correctional Services Act 2023. The Centre has been given three months' time to make the said changes.

Joe Biden on Wednesday signed legislation that will exempt some U.S. semiconductor manufacturing facilities from federal environmental reviews that are receiving government subsidies. Without the new law, projects from the $52.7 billion CHIPS Act of 2022 could have been forced to undergo additional federal environmental reviews under the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 to win federal permits.
