Manu Joseph: AI won't render us obsolete—Other humans are far more interesting to us than machines
The fear of artificial intelligence (AI) is so rampant now that it appears to be a matter of decorum to admit to this fear. People keep telling me AI is coming and that I should be scared. I’m very open to being scared, which I’ve always thought is a reasonable way of surviving life, but somehow I am not, and I have tried to understand why. Also, I don’t know what exactly I should be scared of, because there are two distinct fears.

Apar Industries braces for a muted Q3; lower valuation is not enticing
Tariff uncertainty and elevated aluminium and copper prices have lengthened contracting cycles in these markets.Domestic demand remains supported by power transmission and distribution, renewables and railways. Cost pass-through clauses protect margins, but not timing—meaning profitability is preserved even as delayed order finalizations push deliveries towards the latter part of the year. For FY26, management has guided for around 10% volume growth in conductors, while treating ₹30,000 as a minimum Ebitda per tonne level over the cycle.

Karnataka braces for bandh on Mar 22; security tightened statewide
pro-Kannada groups have called for a 12-hour statewide shutdown on March 22 to protest the alleged assault on a state-run bus conductor in Belagavi last month for not knowing Marathi. According to officials, police in various districts have deployed home guards along with the City Armed Reserve unit as a precautionary measure to ensure that the bandh is observed peacefully without causing inconvenience to the public. Senior officers will also be on the ground to oversee security arrangements and prevent any untoward incidents. Speaking to reporters, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar urged people to maintain peace and abide by the law. «We will protect the interests of the state. Everyone should maintain peace and follow the law. However, I feel there is no need for a bandh,» he said. According to Bengaluru Deputy Commissioner Jagadeesha G, no holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in the city on Saturday despite the bandh called by pro-Kannada outfits.

Nuvama initiates coverage on Apar Industries with Rs 12,700 target, calls it a compounder
Apar Industries as a giant that is still growing, domestic brokerage firm Nuvama initiated coverage on the stock with a ‘buy’ rating and a target price of Rs 12,700, signaling an upside of 25.5% from Monday’s closing price. “We argue that APAR is a favored play on India’s T&D capex super-cycle, which would spur demand for high-value-added/efficient conductors. Re-conductoring and export pick-up can further drive growth (18%+ EPS CAGR over FY24–27E at 23% RoE),” said Nuvama in its report.

Which sectors will be beneficiaries of National Electricity Plan? Care Rating’s Sabyasachi Majumdar explains
Sabyasachi Majumdar, Senior Director, Care Ratings, says one of the beneficiaries of the new National Electricity Plan would be the transmission companies. There will be a lot of projects for them to take up. But apart from that, the beneficiaries will be the suppliers to the transmission network, which will basically be the equipment manufacturers, people who make the lines, conductors, cables, transformation equipment, switchyards, and switchgears, plus the EPC contractors who are going to string up all these lines and set up all these capacities. So, it will have a broad-based impact across the large segment of the electrical engineering industry. Is the National Electricity Plan really a fresh announcement coming in or is this something that was budgeted for and talked about already and you guys were factoring it in the capex lined up for the coming years? Sabyasachi Majumdar: The power demand has been fairly buoyant after the recovery from COVID and it has been growing at a high single digit. Basically, it can be considered a continuation of the current trend. Right now, peak demand is somewhere around 250 gigawatt and the government expects it to go up to about 458 gigawatt up to 2032, which basically represents CAGR of about 7% to 8% per annum, which is more or less in line with what we have been seeing in the past. So, it is pretty much based on that.
