Supreme Court on Thursday allowed Directorate of Enforcement (ED) head S K Mishra to stay in office till September 15, 2023, in «larger public interest», but clarified that no application seeking further extension of his term will be entertained in future. A bench headed by Justice B R Gavai said Mishra will cease to be the ED director post September 15. The order was passed on an application filed by the central government seeking extension of Mishra's tenure till October 15.

The European Union opened an antitrust investigation into whether Microsoft is abusing its dominant position by bundling its Teams videoconferencing app with its popular Office productivity software, marking the first formal EU probe of the software giant in more than a decade. The bloc’s executive body, the European Commission, said it is concerned that Microsoft may be giving Teams an unfair advantage by not allowing customers to choose whether access to the product is included when they subscribe to the company’s productivity software.

Kim Jong Un met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to discuss military issues and the regional security environment, state media said Thursday as the country celebrated the 70th anniversary of an armistice that halted fighting in the 1950-53 Korean War. The North's official Korean Central News Agency said Kim and Shoigu talked Wednesday in the capital, Pyongyang, and reached a consensus on unspecified «matters of mutual concern in the field of national defense and security and on the regional and international security environment.» The report did not specify what was discussed.
