SCO Heads of State Council approved the SCO Economic Development Strategy to 2030; made the decisions on completing the procedure for admitting the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and granting it the status of an SCO member state; signed the Memorandum of Obligations of the Republic of Belarus in order to obtain the status of an SCO member state; and on announced the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan, as the SCO Cultural and Tourism Capital in 2023–2024. In addition, the SCO Heads of State Council approved the Concept of Cooperation between the SCO Member States to decarbonise transport and promote digital transformation and innovative technologies to achieve greater efficiency and sustainability.

Supreme Court on Tuesday was told that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been given «drastic powers» in investigating money laundering cases and these powers need to be reined in. A bench of Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundresh was hearing a batch of pleas relating to Gurugram-based realty group M3M under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). Ebrahim Raisi on Tuesday said the Western hegemonic powers have jeopardised prosperity and the principles of fair trade by resorting to economic coercion and sanctions as he called for the removal of the dollar in transactions to form a fair international system. Wagner fighters took control of a southern city and advanced towards Moscow on June 24, confronting Putin with the gravest challenge to his hold on power since taking over as Russia's paramount leader on the last day of 1999.

Xi Jinping urged Russian, Iranian and other leaders on Tuesday to work towards safeguarding «regional peace» as he addressed a virtual summit of their Shanghai alliance. Xi «called for efforts to safeguard regional peace and ensure common security», state news agency Xinhua said, adding that he urged member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to «follow the right direction and enhance their solidarity and mutual trust».

New Delhi: The Indian Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) has set up a task force to ensure that Indo-US electronics trade goes up from $8 billion to $ 100 billion within a decade, said the apex industry body in a statement.   This comes after India and the United States joined forces to drive forward transformative initiatives, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to the United States last month.    “This will give a major boost to our efforts to become a global hub for innovation and manufacturing," said ICEA chairman Pankaj Mohindroo. The industry body represents electronics ecosystem in India, including components, subassemblies, EMS, and finished goods across various ESDM verticals such as mobile phones, consumer electronics, and IT hardware.  The setting up of Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) will aid in cooperation in futuristic areas such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, space exploration, semiconductors, and defence technology, the statement added.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Monday targeted Praful Patel, who has been sacked from the party for siding with Ajit Pawar, saying he was fortunate unlike others as he used to get elected to Parliament without facing any elections just by filling the form. After Ajit Pawar took oath as deputy chief minister on Sunday, the Pawar senior had singled out Patel and MP Sunil Tatkare for «abandoning» the guidelines of the party president and taking a «wrong path». On Monday, Sharad Pawar sacked Patel, the working president of NCP, and general secretary Tatkare for engaging in «anti-party activities».

Atul Anand took over as Additional Secretary of Department of Military Affairs on Monday, the Defence Ministry said. The post was previously held by Lt Gen Anil Puri, who retired on February 28 this year, the ministry said in a statement.

NEW DELHI : The leaders’ summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) takes places on Tuesday under the chairmanship of India, with a likely push for inducting Iran and possibly Belarus as new members. Apart from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the virtual summit is set to be attended by President Xi Jinping of China, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan, President Vladimir Putin of Russia and the leaders of a number of Central Asian countries. The previous summit took place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in September last year.
