US declares end to troubled Gaza aid pier mission
US military's problem-plagued mission to bring desperately needed aid into Gaza via a temporary pier has ended, with deliveries shifting to an Israeli port, a senior American officer said Wednesday. US President Joe Biden has expressed disappointment in the performance of the pier, which has repeatedly broken free of the shore because of bad weather since its initial installation in mid-May, limiting the time it has been operational. «The maritime surge mission involving the pier is complete, so there's no more need to use the pier,» Vice Admiral Brad Cooper told journalists. «It's now transitioning… to a port in Ashdod, Israel,» which «offers a more sustainable path.»

India needs stronger, prominent presence in Central Asia based on PM's successful foreign policy: Expert
India needs a stronger and prominent presence in Central Asia in the backdrop of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's successful foreign policy outreach and there are several promising areas of cooperation including in the fields of green energy and digital technologies, according to Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies chief expert Aliya Mussabekova. “Foreign policy of PM Modi over the last ten years was very successful; here in Kazakhstan we feel its cooperative and supportive interest in our country as well as in the region. But in my point of view, there is a need for a stronger and more prominent Indian presence in Central Asia,” Mussabekova, a leading strategic affairs expert in Kazakhstan, told ET. “I work at an analytical centre, and I can say that even at the level of relations between think tanks, we do not have an established ongoing dialogue. For instance, representatives from Kazakhstan do not participate in the main Indian forum, the Raisina Dialogue,” Mussabekova noted.

Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism aims for fair trade, global decarbonisation: EU official
Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism aims to treat imported goods the same as EU-produced goods to help global decarbonisation, the Director-General of the European Commission has said following a visit to India to discuss tax and custom issues. Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is the European Union's planned tax on the carbon emitted while making goods imported from countries like India and China. The move has sparked a debate at multilateral forums, including the United Nations climate conferences, as the poorer countries fear such tariffs will harm livelihoods and economic growth. Director-General of the European Commission, Gerassimos Thomas, led a group of officials to New Delhi to discuss tax and customs issues, with a focus on CBAM, on July 1 and 2. He met the Indian government officials and business leaders to explore the manner in which it might affect the Indian industries and explain CBAM's goals and timeline. Thomas welcomed India's plans to decarbonise its economy, underlining the shared commitment to collaborate with India in their decarbonisation efforts, the European Commission said in a statement.
