Apple has officially confirmed the inclusion of a USB-C port in the upcoming iPhone 15, aligning with the European Union's regulations on cable standardization. The company's Wonderlust fall 2023 event primarily centered around the unveiling of the iPhone 15 and the latest Apple Watches. During the event, Apple also introduced a new USB-C charging case designed for the AirPods Pro 2. Notably, these upgraded earbuds are now equipped with dust resistance, boasting an IP54 rating, which is an improvement from their previous IPX4 rating. Moreover, they promise lossless audio quality when used in conjunction with the Apple Vision Pro, although this feature may have limited utility for the majority of users. Moving forward, the new USB-C charging case will come bundled with newly purchased AirPods Pro 2, as long as they are not part of the older stock. It remains unclear whether the case will be available for separate purchase for existing AirPods Pro 2 owners. During the product launch event, Apple shared its commitment to incorporating USB-C connectors not only in the iPhone 15 series but also in future versions of the AirPods Pro earphones and its wired EarPods headphones. These developments align with recent EU regulations, which were approved last year and mandate that all small and medium-sized electronic devices must adopt a standard charging cable, specifically USB-C, by the end of 2024. This initiative aims to reduce the number of cables required for various devices, ultimately benefiting consumers by reducing costs and contributing to the long-term reduction of electronic waste.

Adani Wind, the wind energy solutions division of Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL), on Wednesday announced that its 5.2 MW Wind Turbine Generator (WTG), which is India’s largest, has received type certification from WindGuard GmbH. The certification enables Adani Wind to start series production for global markets. It also acknowledges Adani WTG’s conformity with the globally recognized IEC 61400 series standards and regulations for design, testing and manufacturing. WindGuard carried out the testing of the WTG prototype, installed at Mundra, Gujarat, said the company statement. «The type certificate reaffirms the quality and robustness of our 5.2 MW WTG platform built to bring down Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE). The certification is a boost to our endeavor of making India the global manufacturing hub for renewable equipment,» said Vneet Jaain, Director, Adani New Industries Limited. «We are focused on building a portfolio of high-yield next generation wind turbines made in India and are well-poised to cater to the global wind energy demand,” he added.Adani Wind’s 5.2 MW wind turbine features a rotor diameter of 160 meters with a swept area of 20,106 square meters and a tip height of 200 meters. The 5.2 MW WTG is developed by Adani Wind in collaboration with W2E Wind to Energy GmbH, Germany. »The certification is a testament to our R&D efforts focused on enabling higher Annual Energy Production (AEP) of wind power plants and enhancing the profitability for customers," said Milind Kulkarni, COO, Adani Wind. The company has an integrated manufacturing ecosystem for WTG located at Mundra, Gujarat.

Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) on Wednesday joined hands to develop an indigenous communication-based train control (i-CBTC) system, officials said. The team has commenced work at the i-CBTC lab of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and will soon develop and deploy a prototype i-CBTC product on a «designated test track» within the DMRC network, they said. With this partnership, the Delhi Metro and BEL are set to «usher in a new era of rail transportation in India», driving innovation, reducing costs, and fostering self-reliance in the field of train control signalling systems, the DMRC said in a statement. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of the DMRC. «This groundbreaking partnership is aligned with the 'Make in India' initiative, championed by the Government of India under the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs,» the statement said.
