View: How PM Modi successfully turned Indian presidency into the people’s G20
A day before the G20 summit, I had made three predictions: Prime Minister Narendra Modi would remove the last obstacles. Indian diplomats would craft a communiqué on which a consensus would be reached. The Indian presidency would be seen as a turning point in G20 history. The first two of these predictions have come true. As S Jaishankar said in an interview, the PM did speak to clear the path with some of his counterparts at critical moments.

Indian Navy moves mega deal to buy second indigenous aircraft carrier
Indian Navy has moved a mega proposal to the government for building the second aircraft carrier to be constructed by the Cochin Shipyard Limited. A proposal has been received by the Defence Ministry for building and acquiring the second indigenous aircraft carrier which would be known as the Indigenous Aircraft Carrier-2, defence officials told ANI. The Defence Ministry would be shortly discussing the proposal moved by the Indian Navy as one of the biggest programmes under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Aatmanirbharta (self reliance) programme in defence sector, they said. The programme will create several thousand direct and manifold indirect jobs through the Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kerala when the work on the IAC-2 is approved by the government. The first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant was commissioned by Prime Minister Modi in Kochi in September last year where the expertise developed by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) in building such large size ships was applauded. The Indian Navy has been pressing for three aircraft carriers to maintain at least one carrier on each coast with one in refit. With three aircraft carriers, the Indian Navy would also be keeping pace with all the navies deployed in the Indo-Pacific region, officials said. The Indian Navy is also going to get 26 new Rafale fighter aircraft for the INS Vikrant and also looking to buy the indigenous Twin engine Deck L-based Fighter aircraft which are now expected to be produced in large numbers to be deployed on the three carriers. Admiral R Hari Kumar had recently stated that INS Vikrant, the indigenously built aircraft carrier, will be based in Visakhapatnam.

A passport to everywhere
high net worth individual (HNI ), a fluid way of life — the freedom to move unfettered worldwide — is the ultimate luxury. It’s the final step to becoming a successful global citizen. Kristin Surak, associate professor of Political Sociology at the London School of Economics, UK, and author of 'The Golden Passport: Global Mobility for Millionaires', says that India has one of the lowest ranks when it comes to visa-free access, so travel for Indian citizens can be incredibly challenging. “And it’s not just entering, even transiting through countries can be a challenge,” she says, recounting how a colleague had to pay an extra 1,000 pounds to fly from Delhi to London because he couldn’t transit through certain countries using only his Indian passport. “An extra thousand pounds multiplied by 100 times — that is the cost of a foreign citizenship.”

Women's Reservation a matter of principle for BJP, not a political agenda: Amit Shah
Amit Shah said today that the Women's Reservation Bill is a matter of principle and not a political agenda for his party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. «For some political parties, the women reservation bill could be a political agenda; it could be a tool to win polls, but for our party and PM Modi, it is not politics; for us, reservation for women is a matter of principle,» Shah said while speaking in the Lok Sabha today. During the discussion over the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, Shah said that PM Modi brought forth the vision of women-led development in front of the entire world during the G20 and said that the passage of the bill will mark the start of a new era. He also recalled how Modi implemented a 33% reservation for women in the BJP years ago. «Women's security, respect, and equal participation have been the life force of government since PM Modi took the oath of office,» Amit Shah said. The Home Minister also said the Women's Reservation Bill will put an end to a long fight for the rights of women and initiate women-led development in India. It will ensure the participation of women in decision-making, and policy-making in the country, he added. Taking a dig at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Amit Shah said, «Whoever lives in this country, whose roots are connected to India, cannot make the mistake of considering women as weak.» Kharge created a controversy yesterday after he said that some political parties picked “weak women” as candidates and “won't choose those who're educated and can fight.” “Largely, ladies from backward and scheduled castes are not that literate.

I have just 900 euros in my account, not living a very comfortable life: Sumit Nagal
ATP Tour, India's number one tennis player Sumit Nagal is left with less than Rs one lakh in his bank account and a morose feeling of not leading a comfortable life. He has been training at the Nansel Tennis Academy in Germany for a few years but lack of funds meant that he could not train at his favourite place in the first three months of season 2023. His friends Somdev Devvarman and Christopher Marquis helped him stay in shape in January and February before he finally managed to fund his stay in Germany. The fund crunch is the story of probably every Indian tennis player but the fact that the country's number one singles player is not saving enough money for himself and his family just exposes the unhelpful system and the brutal Tour where the players wage lonely battles. To stay and play on the extravagant ATP Tour, Nagal has invested all his prize money, his salary from IOCL and the support he gets from Maha Tennis Foundation. The expenditure is related to his stay at the training centre in Peine and his travel for tournaments along with either his coach or a physio. «If I look at my bank balance, I have what I had at the beginning of the year.
