Corruption, casteism and communalism will have no place in national life by 2047: PM Modi
Narendra Modi has said, outlining his vision for the country for the next two decades. «We have democracy, demography and diversity with us and now a fourth D is getting added to it — development,» Prime Minister Modi said in an exclusive interview to PTI. The prime minister said before 2014, the country saw many governments that were unstable and, therefore, unable to get much done. «But in the last few years, the people have given a decisive mandate, which has led to a stable government, predictable policies and clarity in the overall direction,» Modi, who is seeking a third term as prime minister, said. «By 2047, I am sure that our country will be among the developed countries. »Our economy will be even more inclusive and innovative.

Infra projects granted to 'close friends' of BJP: Congress targets govt over CAG report
Congress on Sunday targeted the Modi government over a recent CAG report on Bharatmala project, alleging that infrastructure projects have been granted to "close friends" and donors of the BJP and asserted that only a JPC probe can unravel the truth. In a statement, Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh said the Bharatmala Pariyojana is aimed at developing 35,000 km of national highways to make freight movement across the country more efficient. «Yet, the most remarkable feature of the project has been the efficiency with which costs have been inflated and projects handed over to the Prime Minister's close friends and his party's electoral bond donors, as shown in a recent CAG report covering the period 2017-21,» he alleged. The Congress leader said the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) awarded a 250 km four-lane project between Suryapet and Khammam in Telangana to a consortium in which Adani Transport was the dominant partner with a 74 per cent work share. According to the CAG, he said Adani Transport «did not fulfil the condition of 'Request for Proposal' regarding experience of five years» building highways. «Despite being completely unqualified to bid, Adani Transport once again benefited from Modi's Magic.

Unemployment highest in 42 years under PM Modi: AAP Sanjay Singh
Narendra Modi whose only motto is to «lie to the people, get their votes and rule over them». The remarks by the AAP, a constituent of the opposition INDIA alliance, came after PM Modi, in an interview with PTI, said, «For a long time, India was perceived as a nation of over one billion hungry stomachs. But now, India is being seen as a nation of over one billion aspirational minds, more than two billion skilled hands, and hundreds of millions of young people.» Reacting to the prime minister's comments that fake news and deep fakes can cause chaos and loss of credibility of news sources and can be used to fuel social unrest, the AAP accused the Union Cabinet of being «responsible for most of the fake news». AAP's Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said the prices of fuel and medicines have gone up considerably under Prime Minister Modi. «Under PM Modi, unemployment became the highest in 42 years.

PM Modi's G20 interview: BJP leaders hail visionary leadership, opposition raises questions on price rise, unemployment
BJP and the opposition traded barbs on Sunday over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks in an interview to PTI ahead of the G20 summit, with the ruling party leaders hailing his vision for the country and INDIA bloc parties raising questions on «rising» prices and unemployment. In the interview, Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that the 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' model can be the guiding principle for the welfare of a world shifting from a GDP-centric approach to a human-centric one. Irrespective of the size of the GDP, every voice matters, Modi told PTI in an exclusive interview conducted late last week at his Lok Kalyan Marg residence. Prime Minister Modi said that India's economic growth is a natural by-product of his nine-year-old government's political stability, as he expressed optimism that it will be a developed nation by 2047 with «corruption, casteism and communalism» having no place in our national life. His remarks evoked contrasting reactions from the ruling party and opposition leaders. «There is no doubt in anyone's mind that India under PM Modi over the last nine years and India's G20 presidency are big milestones in the country's rise on the global stage,» Union minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said on Prime Minister Modi's 'India soon to be in top three world economies' remark.

"Unacceptable": Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla on Udhayanidhi Stalin's Sanatan rant
Stalin's son's «eradicate» Sanatana Dharma" remarks triggered a political slugfest, political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla condemned the language used by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) minister. Speaking to ANI, Poonawalla said "...This kind of language in our political discourse is absolutely unacceptable. I believe that while every way of life does require reform, those reforms must happen through legislation, political movements, dialogue, through conversation… I think that this kind of language must be condemned." Addressing a conference on Saturday, Udhayanidhi, the minister for Sports and Youth Affairs in the Tamil Nadu government, equated 'Sanatana' (Sanatan Dharma) with «mosquitoes, dengue, malaria, fever and corona», adding that it should be stamped out like these ailments. Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief K Annamalai on Sunday launched fresh attacks on the DMK leader over his remarks on 'Sanatana Dharma' and said that the eradication of a particular culture is called genocide. «What Udhayanidhi spoke yesterday should be condemned by the 142 crore people of the country because hatred for a particular religion came out yesterday.

Tata Steel in advanced talks to secure funds for UK plant: Reports
Tata Steel is in advanced talks with the UK government to agree around GBP 500 million in state-backed funding to secure the future of its Port Talbot plant in South Wales, according to UK media reports this weekend. The Indian steel major has been in long-drawn discussions related to the critical green transition of the UK's largest steelworks, involving thousands of jobs in the country's steel industry. According to a 'Sky News' report on Saturday, both sides are now close to agreeing a deal that would commit millions to the future of the Port Talbot steelworks. «Tata Steel is continuing to discuss with the UK government a framework for continuity and decarbonisation of steel making in the UK amidst very challenging underlying business conditions given that several of its heavy end assets are approaching end of life,» a Tata Steel spokesperson told PTI, when asked about the development. «Given the financially constrained position of our UK business, any significant change is only possible with government investment and support, as also seen in other steel making countries in Europe where governments are actively supporting companies in de-carbonisation initiatives,» the spokesperson said.

North Korea stages tactical nuclear attack drill
North Korea conducted a simulated tactical nuclear attack drill that included two long-range cruise missiles in an exercise to «warn enemies» the country would be prepared in case of nuclear war, the KCNA state news agency said on Sunday. KCNA said the drill was successfully carried out on Saturday and two cruise missiles carrying mock nuclear warheads were fired towards the West Sea of the Korean peninsula and flew 1,500 km (930 miles) at a preset altitude of 150 meters. Pyongyang also said it would bolster its military deterrence against the United States and South Korea. South Korea's military said the claim of success could be an exaggeration as «not all of them succeeded,» Seoul's Yonhap News reported, citing a senior official at the Joint Chiefs of Staff. KCNA also reportd that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un visited Pukjung Machine Complex, which produces marine engines, and a munitions factory to stress the importance of strengthening Pyongyang's naval forces. «He affirmed that a future plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the WPK (Worker's Party of Korea) would set forth an important modernization of the complex and the development direction of the shipbuilding industry,» a KCNA statement said. It did not specify the date of his visit. The latest missile test came just after the joint annual exercises between South Korea and the United States, known as Ulchi Freedom Shield, came to a close on Thursday. It featured air drills with B-1B bombers. North Korea has been stepping up its military deterrence against Washington and Seoul and has criticized last month's summit agreement between the two on improving military cooperations. KCNA said on Aug.
