India had formally expressed displeasure with the Indonesian government on Subianto's decision to travel to Pakistan from New Delhi, where he will be the chief guest for the Republic Day celebrations. Pakistan was not part of his plan until he met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. However, Malaysia was part of his original plan. Indonesia has been among Organisation of Islamic Cooperation member countries that have not backed Pakistan's position on Kashmir at the forum.

China Pakistan Economic Partnership, according to media reports on Saturday. The development came during the fourth round of Pakistan-China Bilateral Political Consultations (BPC) in Beijing on Friday, according to Geo News. Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch led the Pakistan delegation, while Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong led the Chinese side. General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, Lt Gen M K Katiyar, in his address at an investiture ceremony here, without naming any country, also said, «Because our disputes, along northern and western borders, are related to land, therefore for us it becomes even more necessary to win on land». «This is a challenging time for our army. Two major wars are currently underway in the world and going on for a long time. Many countries are directly or indirectly linked to these wars,» he said. Despite efforts by world bodies such as the UN, these wars are neither ending nor getting limited. Today's situation encourages those countries who want to settle disputes through the use of force or fighting, the top army officer said.

Wang Yi made a surprise visit to the Maldives, during which he held talks with President Mohamed Muizzu and discussed the state of bilateral relations, amid Male's recent warming up to India. Wang, who is also a member of the powerful Political Bureau of the Communist Party, met Muizzu during his stopover in Male on Friday while on his way back from a tour, official media reported. This was the first major visit by a Chinese official to Maldives after Muizzu visited China in January last year, months after his election. During Muizzu's visit, the two countries elevated the bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and signed some key agreements.

Avenue Supermarts, which operates the retail chain of DMart, on Saturday announced that its standalone Q3 revenue jumped 17.5% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 15,565 crore while profit rose 6.5% YoY to Rs 785 crore. The retailer's EBITDA margin fell to 7.9% in Q3FY25 as compared to 8.5% in Q3FY24 while the PAT margin also decreased to 5% vs 5.5% on a YoY basis.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday demanded answers from the government on the value of the rupee reaching its «lowest level ever» against the US dollar. The rupee declined 18 paise to breach the 86-mark against the US dollar for the first time on Friday. It settled at 86.04 against the US currency. «The value of rupee against the dollar has reached its lowest level ever. For the first time in history, the value of one dollar has become 86.4 rupees,» Priyanka Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X. She said during Manmohan Singh's tenure, when the value of one dollar was 58-59 rupees, Narendra Modi used to link the value of the rupee with the prestige of the government.

Shashi Tharoor on Saturday condemned Maharashtra minister Nitesh Rane's remark on EVMs, describing it as «shocking» and contrary to the inclusive values upheld during India's freedom struggle. Stating that targeting any particular community is wrong, Tharoor asserted that everyone is an equal citizen of the country and that's the only way for the country to progress. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Saturday that extensions in service, extensions in any form for a particular post are set back to those who are in line. Dhankhar was delivering the inaugural address at the 25th National Conference of Chairpersons of State Public Service Commission being held in Bengaluru. According to him, extension of service indicates that some individuals are indispensable. «Indispensability is a myth. Talent abounds in this country. No one is indispensable. And therefore, it lies in the domain of public service commissions at the state and the central level that when they have a role in such kinds of situations, they must be firm,» added the VP. He also said public service commissions' appointments cannot be driven by patronage, or by favouritism.

Allu Arjun, a court here has relaxed the conditions of his bail in the 'Pushpa 2' stampede case, exempting him from appearing before the investigating officer every Sunday. The court also permitted him to travel abroad to specified countries, with the condition that he must undertake to appear before the SHO of the Chikkadpally police station as and when required. He has been directed to inform the SHO of his travel schedule for each trip and provide details of his place of stay in the destination country until the charge sheet is filed. The remaining bail conditions remain unchanged, the court noted in its order dated January 10.
