I-T dept to tap Interpol in pursuit of tax dodgers and their secret assets
Income Tax (I-T) department has set the ground to tap Interpol for information on the current whereabouts, identity, and hidden assets of tax dodgers. A standard operating procedure has been circulated for initiating requests to Interpol, the world's largest international police organisation with 194 member countries, sources told ET. While tax evasion is a criminal offence and may attract penalty and even imprisonment, the I-T department does not seek the help of Interpol in going after tax fraud offenders. However, learning from past experiences, the tax office believes that accessing the latest information on such fugitives-their locations, front entities, and details of newly acquired assets-would help to freeze bank accounts and other assets faster.

The comment, which Trudeau described during a recent MSNBC appearance on Thursday, was clearly meant to defuse the tension. However, Trump didn’t seem to find it humorous. Silver Notice 'more effective' than Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties for info on offshore illicit wealth: CBI Director
Interpol 'Silver Notice' a «more effective» tool than the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLATs) for gathering information on illicit assets parked offshore, CBI Director Praveen Sood has said it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi's idea, which has now been realised. In an exclusive interaction with PTI, he said Prime Minister Modi had proposed in 2015 a system under the Interpol to trace money laundered offshore, and it has now taken shape as the Silver Notice. The Notice, aimed at locating illicit assets laundered across borders, is the newest addition to the Interpol's suite of eight colour-coded Notices and Diffusions, which enable countries to share alerts and requests for information worldwide. Conventionally, the information on illicit assets is gathered through MLATs which are treaties between two countries whereby they cooperate to provide and obtain formal assistance in the prevention, suppression, investigation, and prosecution of crime.

Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India, says his wife Natasha loves staring at him on Sundays
Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India, echoed Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra's views on the necessity of work-life balance. In a lighthearted remark, Poonawalla noted, “Even my wife enjoys staring at me on Sundays,” aligning with Mahindra’s earlier statement about cherishing personal time. Mahindra, a prominent voice on social media, had previously quipped, “I’m on social media, not because I’m lonely. My wife is wonderful; I love staring at her. I’m here because people don’t realize it’s an incredible business tool.” His comment, delivered at a recent event, was widely interpreted as a witty critique of L&T Chairman SN Subrahmanyan. Subrahmanyan had controversially questioned the utility of Sundays, provocatively asking, “How long can you stare at your wife? What do you do sitting at home?” The debate around work-life balance gained further momentum after RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka dismissed the notion of relentless work schedules. Taking to social media platform X, Goenka humorously proposed renaming Sunday as “Sun-duty” while stressing that excessive work hours lead to burnout, not success. He added, “Work-life balance isn’t optional; it’s essential.”

Emmanuel Macron, as per a report by local media house Le Point. «It has damaged our reputation and image without significantly improving our effectiveness,» he admitted. However, he added, «That doesn't mean we should move toward laxity. Sheikh Hasina should be allowed to stay in India as long as she wants: Mani Shankar Aiyar
Mani Shankar Aiyar on Saturday night said that deposed Bangladeshi prime minister Sheikh Hasina should be allowed to stay in India as long as she wants. Expressing happiness that Indian foreign secretary Vikram Misri went to Dhaka last month and held discussions with the authorities there, Aiyar told PTI on the sidelines of the 16th Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival that the talks should be continuous and New Delhi needs to establish ministerial contacts with the interim government of Bangladesh. About demands by Bangladesh to extradite Hasina, he said, «I hope we will never disagree that Sheikh Hasina has done a lot of good for us. I am glad she was given refuge. I think we should be her host as long as she wants, even if it is for all her life.» Hasina, 77, has been living in India since August 5 when she fled the country following a massive student-led protest that toppled her 16-year regime.
