India to replace 2.5 million tonnes of conventional urea with nano urea in FY24, minister says

NMDC iron ore output grows 13 pc in April-Feb; sales surge 21 pc
NMDC on Friday posted around 13 per cent jump in iron ore production to 40.24 million tonne during the April-February period of the 2023-24 fiscal. Its cumulative production was 35.62 MT in the year-ago period, the steel PSU said in an exchange filing. However, the company's production in February fell 12 per cent to 3.92 MT as against 4.48 MT in the same month last year. The cumulative sales in April-February this fiscal was 40.48 MT, up 21 per cent from 33.42 MT in the last financial year.

Lok Sabha elections that the country will undergo soon, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has released an advisory for the political parties, candidates and star campaigners where it warns them of stern action in case of direct or indirect violation of Model Code of Conduct which is expected to come into effect with the announcement of the Lok Sabha and four state assembly polls later this month. «The Election Commission will assess any indirect MCC violations as per advisory as a fair basis to rework the notices to be given in terms of time and content in issue in the forthcoming elections. For the general election to the Lok Sabha and four state Legislative assemblies, all phases and geographical areas of the elections shall be the basis for determining „repeat“ offences,» asserted the Commission in its advisory. Based on recent trends, EC has also urged parties to maintain decorum and utmost restraint, raise level of election campaign to issue-based debate.

India's forex reserves up by $2.98 bn to $619.1 as of Feb 23
foreign exchange reserves surged by of $2.98 billion to $619.07 billion for the week ending on February 23, latest data by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed on Friday. Previously, forex reserves dropped by $1.13 billion to $616.1 billion, for the week ended on February 16, 2024. According to the Weekly Statistical Supplement released by the RBI, Foreign currency assets (FCAs) increased by $2.41 billion to $548.19 billion. Expressed in dollar terms, the FCAs include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-US units like the euro, pound and yen held in the foreign exchange reserves.

Increased use of nano-urea has reduced 25 lakh tonnes of traditional urea: Fertilizer Minister
consumption of traditional urea in India has declined from 357 lakh tonnes in financial year 2023 to estimated 327 lakh tonnes in FY 24 due to the introduction of nano urea, said fertilizer minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday. The country has reduced the consumption of traditional urea by 25 lakh tonnes, the minister said, without revealing the savings in subsidy on this account. With this the government intends to reduce the import of traditional urea becoming self reliant, he said, adding that the balance use of fertilizers will help on improving the quality of soil.

97.62 percent of ₹2,000 currency notes already returned, says RBI
₹2000 banknotes in circulation as on May 19 last year have already been returned, said the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in an announcement made on Friday. Besides, the total value of ₹2,000 banknotes in circulation, which was ₹3.56 lakh crore at the time of withdrawal in May last year, has now fallen to ₹8,470 crore on February 29, 2024, the announcement further states. For the unversed, the banking regulator had announced the withdrawal of ₹2000 denomination banknotes from circulation on May 19, 2023.
