US court proposes Google breakup, aims to curb tech giant’s power in search and AI
Chrome browser and Android operating system, which it argues have helped maintain an illegal monopoly in online search. In addition to divestitures, prosecutors are also considering barring Google from collecting sensitive user data and requiring the company to make its search results and indexes available to competitors. Other measures could include allowing websites to opt out of having their content used to train AI models and appointing a court-monitored technical committee to oversee Google's operations.Reportedly, these remedies could reduce Google’s revenue while offering its competitors, such as Microsoft Bing and DuckDuckGo, more room to grow.

SEBI court rejects Ketan Parekh's plea for compounding of case for penalty payment default
stock market broker Ketan Parekh's plea for the closure of a case initiated against by SEBI for not paying a penalty imposed by the markets regulator, noting the accused prima facie violated the norms «intentionally». The special judge for cases under the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) Act, RM Jadhav, in an order passed on October 4, ruled that Parekh's plea for compounding of the case against him «is unwarranted and uncalled for». SEBI initiated a criminal case against Parekh after he failed to pay the penalty for violating the board's regulation. In response, Parekh filed an application before the court for closure of the case by compounding.

Samsung has acceded to most demands of workers, says TN govt
Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday said Samsung India Electronics has accepted most of the demands of workers, who commenced strike on September 9, and reiterated its request that employees resume work immediately. In a related development, on Tuesday night, some participants/those related to the strike were arrested by police and were later released 'on their own bond' by a magistrate. A key demand of the Samsung workers, registration of their union, backed by the CPI(M) affiliated Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), is, however, yet to be accepted by the authorities. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said Samsung, a multinational, has its own rules. The only bone of contention is registration of the workers union. «Samsung says that they will not accept a Union which has a political affiliation. This is their stand. Currently, discussions are going on,» he told reporters.
