Russian attack kills 16 in east Ukraine as Blinken visits Kyiv, say officials
Russian attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kostiantynivka on Wednesday as U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said. Footage circulated online by presidential officials showed people falling to the ground or running for cover after a huge explosion in front of them, seconds after some look up to the sky when they hear what sounds like a missile approaching. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the attack, saying a market, shops and a pharmacy had been struck in the industrial city close to the battlefield. «This Russian evil must be defeated as soon as possible,» Zelenskiy said on the Telegram messaging app. «When someone in the world still attempts to deal with anything Russian, it means turning a blind eye to this reality.

Clothing, lifestyle retailers and shopping malls expect bumper festive harvest
shopping malls have seen a sharp recovery in sales across pricepoints in the past few weeks during Raksha Bandhan and Onam, raising hopes of strong demand this festive season even though mass segments in electronics and auto stay under pressure. Retailers said the recent sales trend indicates a normal festive period ahead for apparel and discretionary segments that had been struggling for almost a year now. “The last few months have been challenging, but we are now seeing single-digit same-store sales,” said Devarajan Iyer, chief executive of department store chain Lifestyle International. “We have also managed our inventory for the festive season after gauging this demand boost.” The festive season starts with Onam and covers Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, Dussehra, Diwali and Bhai Dooj. “Onam sales have been strong and our recently opened mall, Forum Kochi, at Maradu has reported best-ever sales and footfall than any mall we have opened so far,” said Muhammad Ali, CEO of Forum Malls, promoted by Prestige Group Bengaluru-based developer Prestige Group. “In Benguluru also, sales momentum has started, and we expect to overcome the last few month’s slowdown during the long festive season,” he said.

India to Bharat? Dinner invite sparks name change rumour
New Delhi: An invitation for a G20 dinner sent out by President Droupadi Murmu in her capacity as “President of Bharat" instead of “President of India" triggered a controversy on Tuesday and set off furious speculation that such a move could be part of the legislative agenda in the upcoming special session of Parliament. The Opposition said the decision violated the Constitution and sought to link it to the decision to name the 28-party opposition grouping INDIA, but some senior government ministers said it was meant to snap ties with a colonial past. The invite for the 9 September dinner at 8pm, to be hosted by Murmu in Bharat Mandapam, will come in the middle of the G20 leaders summit in New Delhi.

Banks moot covering stamp duty, registry charges in home loans
banking sector regulator approves a proposal submitted by banks to include stamp duty and other registration charges in the project cost, said people with knowledge of the matter. Lenders reached out to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after internal deliberations in a meeting held last month, they said. At present, such charges are not covered in the home loan amount.«We are hoping that the RBI will take a favourable decision, and this will increase the loan amount to an individual. Since the housing loan is backed by collateral, it will not add to any undue risk,» said a senior bank executive, who did not wish to be identified. If the RBI approves the proposal, for a project costing ₹1 crore, including stamp duty and registration charges of ₹20 lakh, a borrower will be eligible for a loan of ₹75 lakh, against ₹60 lakh under the existing loan-to-value (LTV) ratios prescribed by the RBI.
