Cabinet Agriculture Mission effect may take a couple of years to reflect: Madan Sabnavis
Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist, Bank of Baroda, says the steps announced by the government cover both crops – horticulture as well as allied activities – and this is required for overall enhancing and creating more steady growth and output as well as income for farmers. Today when we are talking in terms of rural consumption lagging, one of the factors behind it is that we are not seeing a commensurate increase in terms of income. Sabnavis also says that we may not see the impact in the immediate quarter. 3.5% to 4% should be the trend growth that we should see in the case of overall GDP growth of 7% to 8% at the aggregate level. It will take a couple of years before all these pieces are put together.

BJP launches membership drive, seeks to tap youth, women, aspirational sections
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged upon them to undertake the party’s membership drive with renewed vigor and in a festive spirit. He emphasized that fresh blood in the organization should come from the youth, women and those living in tribal and aspirational blocks in the hinterland while the exercise should begin from areas where the party has done badly in the polls. BJP launched its ambitious membership drive, which includes renewal of association of those already in the party, here on Monday with organisation’s chief JP Nadda making Modi the first member through a missed call to a dedicated number. As per Article 9 of the BJP constitution, the membership has to be renewed every six years. In his speech, Modi said BJP has grown from a fledging party that faced a lot of ridicule in its initial days due to its poor strength to where it stands today. He recalled the struggles and sacrifices of generations of party workers. The journey, he underlined, has been not just ideological but emotional as well.

'First-of-its-kind' space travel reality series to get $50 million from Banijay Asia
Banijay Asia plans to invest $50 million (over Rs 400 crore) in a «first-of-its-kind» reality series tentatively titled 'Race to Space', making it India's most expensive television show, sources close to the development said. The investment will cover the licensing fee to the US-based Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) as well as production and talent costs, they added. Industry watchers said 'Bigg Boss Hindi', hosted by Bollywood star Salman Khan, is currently the country's most expensive non-fiction show, with budgets exceeding Rs 150 crore. «Given the scale and scope of the project, this is not just a documentary series or just a reality series — it is a 'space programme',» Banjay Asia CEO Deepak Dhar said. The new reality format will revolutionise competitive reality television and rekindle interest in space exploration, he added. Expressing optimism about the show's success in India, SERA co-founder Joshua Skurla cited the interest in last year's Chandrayaan-3 moon landing live-stream.
