View investment in senior care ventures as long term, says Zerodha’s Nithin Kamath
Zerodha's chief executive, Nithin Kamath, said on Friday that those investing in senior care ventures need to view it as a journey of 15-20 years rather than the traditional startup cycles of 7-10 years. Entrepreneurs need to focus on steady growth rather than rapid scaling, he said. “This isn't about catching a trend. The key is not to build short-term. You're trying to build something before the market fully develops,” he said, speaking at the Association of Senior Living India’s Ageing Fest in Bengaluru. He emphasised the need to mainstream the idea of ‘senior care’ and bring more awareness to remove the social stigma that exists in society. “There needs to be more effort to build beyond the top 25%,” he added.

Market corrections are often misunderstood. 4 reasons why you should buy any dip
Indian equity market, often a beacon of growth and resilience, has recently experienced a correction of ~11% in the Nifty 50 Index from its all-time highs. Such movements invariably spark two competing sentiments: excitement about potential buying opportunities and apprehension over further declines. For investors, it’s critical to analyze whether this correction signals an attractive entry point or warrants a more cautious stance.

Auto sector faces short-term challenges, recovery likely by March: Sunil Subramaniam
«I think that overall conditions should favour this and then March is usually a season when auto sales pick up because it is the year end clearance and all that. So, all of this excess backlog will probably get cleared at that time. So, I expect this weakness to be there for the next month or so,» says Sunil Subramaniam, Market Expert. So, firstly to start off with the auto sector. Now, we all knew that December is the month when discounts will come in from auto companies to boost their sales, but how long do you see the weakness that we are seeing in the auto space right now also because of a high base will continue going forward. For how long do you expect that to happen? Sunil Subramaniam: I think it will last till the middle of February, I do not see a quick turn on that because one of the things which is hurting and these are the bottom of the pyramid in the auto segment, two wheelers are the lowest priced vehicles and that is where the inflation has been hurting the consumer and hence demand at the bottom of the pyramid has been weak and I think until the monsoon forecast actually translates into lower vegetable and food prices and inflation eases.

Value vs momentum strategy: Which works better in bull and bear markets?
A value strategy means investing in undervalued companies with strong fundamentals that are trading below their intrinsic value and are out of favour from a price perspective. The expectation is that, eventually, these companies will show a strong upward price movement.

Post GDP shocker, which sectors should you bet on? Here’s what Nitin Raheja has to say
Nitin Raheja, Executive Director and Head of Discretionary Equities, Julius Baer Wealth Advisors, says after the Q2 GDP shocker, capex spending which has been just 25% of the budgeted amount should probably come into play over the next two quarters and the industrial pack, the infrastructure companies, the cement companies could start to gain more traction. That could be the contract trade to play because it is very difficult to bring consumption back on stream as fast. What is your view on some of these new exciting themes, green, clean, which will make companies very efficient in terms of energy dependency? Is it good to be in a green & clean theme? Nitin Raheja: The road ahead is going to be good for the kind of investment that is going into green energy and within that in solar and wind. My only concern is the kind of valuations that are currently existing in some of these stocks. Let us not forget that while these businesses are doing well, when you talk about things like solar panels, they are essentially commoditised businesses. Currently, thanks to tariff barriers that have been put in place by the US on China, we are seeing an opportunity for Indian exports. Now, that is good and that means that Indian companies should do well over the next few years.

PEs seek access to majority stake in US healthcare BPO
Blackstone and Carlyle are competing to acquire a majority stake in Texas-headquartered healthcare BPO Access Healthcare, said people aware of the development. Hillhouse Investment, which narrowly missed out to EQT on a similar US-centric firm GeBBS in September, is also making a strong bid. All these firms are due to submit non-binding offers by the middle of December for a 60-70% stake in the company, valuing it at $1.4-1.5 billion. The quantum of the stake sale is expected to be decided over subsequent rounds of negotiations, said the people cited. Set up in 2012 by Anurag Jain, an Indian-origin serial entrepreneur and venture capitalist, privately held Access Healthcare has 20 global delivery centres in nine cities in India, the Philippines, and the US.

From here on, Bajaj Finance could be an outperformer: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says given three-four years of underperformance by Bajaj Finance, the growth in the balance sheet and their ability to reasonably control asset quality even at a time when the pressures are growing, combined with a potential monetary easing cycle, holds it at good stead. From here on, there is a very high probability that Bajaj Finance could be an outperformer. The pharma sector is growing at 6-8%. It is even lower than India's nominal GDP. There are specific companies which may do 15%. An odd outlier may do 20%. But the excitement in this space of late has been absolutely palpable. Why is that? Sandip Sabharwal: Sectors go through cycles. Pharma had a big up cycle and outperformance cycle many years back, then it fell out of the radar and then stocks became very cheap. So, when stocks become cheap and then there is an improvement in profitability cycle led by lower input costs and higher sales, then even a 8-10% growth in sales can lead to a 15-20% or more growth in profitability and that is something which we have seen for many companies and that has led to another round of re-rating.

EMs & emerging market currencies will do better in 2025; TVS, Maruti doing better in auto: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says net-net, 2025 should be a reasonably good year overall because today the consensus trade is long dollar, long US equities, and the overweights on that are so excessive that normally and the consensus view is so drastic on that side, normally the reverse plays out and we could actually see emerging markets and emerging market currencies do better in 2025. In auto, among two-wheelers, TVS has done better than expected, Hero MotoCorp has done less well. Maruti numbers seem to be pretty good and they are the ones who actually corrected the delay in inventories and the management said that we are back to normal last month. So, the positives seem to be from TVS and Maruti. What do you make of the GDP slowdown because people are trying to find reasons around it as to whether one should look at the nominal number or if it is just manufacturing or a backward-looking data and all of that. What is your key takeaway on consumption right now? Sandip Sabharwal: GDP data, whenever it is released, is obviously backward-looking because the reports of the companies have already come in. So, the second quarter results in general were disappointing and those by themselves reflected a growth slowdown. All of us knew that there was a growth slowdown. It was just RBI, which was maintaining a very high forecast of growth, which looked very improbable. So, that reporting has come in.

Tight credit and external uncertainty to weigh on India’s growth: Sonal Varma
«And of course, we have seen profitability in some of the big manufacturing companies come down, which is also going to weigh on growth, so on the whole domestic demand contribution to growth we think will be softer than expected,» says Sonal Varma, Nomura. This 6.5% figure for Q2 GDP, is it closer to your expectation as well? Sonal Varma: We think it will be closer to the lower end of that range. So, we are expecting Q2 at 6.3%. So, slightly below consensus expectations of 6.5% and also below RBI’s forecast of 7%. I mean, in particular, in our view, we are likely to see a bigger drop in private consumption. Even fixed investment where we saw government spending pick up, our view is the private side of investment, things like construction activity indicators have been quite soft. And of course, we have seen profitability in some of the big manufacturing companies come down, which is also going to weigh on growth, so on the whole domestic demand contribution to growth we think will be softer than expected.
