Over a bn pounds of Coca-Cola plastic waste to enter waterways; can fill stomachs of 18 mn whales: Study
That's enough plastic to fill the stomachs of 18 million whales. The report arrives amid mounting concerns over the human health risks posed by the spread of microplastics, which scientists increasingly link to cancer, infertility, heart disease, and more. «Coca-Cola is by far the largest manufacturer and seller of beverages in the world,» said Matt Littlejohn, who leads Oceana's campaigns targeting corporate polluters. «Because of that, they really matter when it comes to the impact of all this on the ocean.»

No relevance globally if we're not big in India, says Danone SA CEO
Danone SA will be «irrelevant as a global player» if it is not committed to and does not have a strong presence in India, which is fast emerging as one of the world's largest markets and growth drivers for several consumer goods multinationals, said chief executive Antoine de Saint-Affrique. «In terms of priority, India is at the very top,» he told ET in an exclusive interview. «If we are not big in India, in 10, 15 or 20 years, we will be irrelevant as a global player. It's as simple as that.» Danone's chief executive said the company's optimism was based on India's stable political environment and thrust on infrastructure.

Can two cups of curd a week help keep ‘sugar’ at bay?
dosas, idlis, mor kuzhumbu, koozh and more from the south of the Aravali range or dhoklas, jalebis, bhaturas, lona illish, khamiri roti and other delicacies from the north. While most of these fermented foods are made from pulses, lentils, meat products and milk, one unifying fermented product that appears in different Indian cuisines is curd aka yogurt. Every occasion demands that cup of curd at the end of a meal.

Can yogurt keep type 2 diabetes at bay? Here's what the experts say
Yogurt sold in the U.S. can make claims that the food may reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, based on limited evidence, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Friday. The agency agreed that there is some evidence, but not significant scientific agreement, that eating at least 2 cups of yogurt per week may reduce the chance of developing the disease that affects about 36 million Americans. FDA has allowed qualified health claims — a claim that lacks full scientific support but is allowed as long as there are disclaimers to keep from misleading consumers — for dietary supplements since 2000 and foods since 2002. The agency had faced lawsuits that challenged the standard of requiring scientific agreement based on claims that it violated free speech guarantees.

After Seizing Western Assets, Russia Puts Chechen Official, Local in charge
Russia has appointed Chechnya’s agriculture minister as the new head of Danone’s business in the country and tapped a Russian businessman to run Carlsberg’s operations there, cementing control of the Western multinationals’ Russian assets days after they were seized. President Vladimir Putin on Sunday signed a decree that effectively placed the local operations of the French food company and Danish brewing giant under government management. Russia’s unexpected seizure of assets belonging to two of the world’s largest consumer-goods companies marked an escalation in economic hostilities with the West amid the war in Ukraine.
