Maharashtra Bhavan will be built in Kashmir: CM Shinde
Maharashtra Bhavan will be built in Jammu and Kashmir and with the Centre's support, no one will dare to oppose it. Speaking at a rally in Maharashtra's Amravati district on Wednesday, Shinde claimed that National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has opposed the construction of the Maharashtra Bhavan in Kashmir. «The state government has received land in Kashmir for building the Maharashtra Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are with us. So no one will dare to oppose it,» the CM said. CM Shinde last year requested Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha for a land parcel to construct the Maharashtra Bhavan to provide accommodations and facilities for tourists and officials from the state visiting the Valley.

Sam Pitroda inheritance tax debate: What is inheritance tax in India
Sam Pitroda, the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, made comments about inheritance tax that led to a political controversy. Prime Minister Modi criticized the Congress party, claiming that they intend to impose higher taxes and prevent individuals from passing on their hard-earned wealth to their heirs. In response, the Congress party distanced itself from Pitroda's statements. Party spokesman Jairam Ramesh pointed out that former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had abolished estate duty in 1985. Pitroda backed the idea of an inheritance tax and cited the example of the US. «Nothing wrong in accumulating wealth but to what point? Let me tell you, in America there's an inheritance tax. So, if let's say one has $100 million worth of wealth, and when he dies he can transfer probably 45% to his children, 55% is grabbed by govt. Now that's an interesting law. It says you, in your generation made wealth, and you are leaving now, you must leave your wealth for the public — not all of it, half of it, which to me sounds fair. In India you don't have that. If somebody is worth $10 billion and dies his children get $10 billion. The public gets nothing. So these are the kinds of issues that people will have to debate and discuss.» Here is a look at what inheritance tax is.

B.C. teen’s killer says new TV show about Reena Virk’s murder ‘disrespectful’
Reena Virk‘s killer told parole officials that a television series about the Victoria, B.C., teen’s murder is “disrespectful” and will “re-victimize” Virk’s family.Documents released by the Parole Board of Canada Wednesday say Virk’s killer Kelly Ellard — who changed her name to Kerry Sim — demonstrated “remorse and victim empathy” after discussing the TV show about the high-profile 1997 murder with her case managers. The parole board decision says Sim, who was 15 at the time of the murder, admitted to playing a “greater role” in Virk’s death, and believes it was “so horrendous” that the television show, “Under the Bridge,” will “re-victimize the victim’s family.”Sim is serving a life sentence for the second-degree murder of Virk, who was 14 at the time, and who had already been badly beaten by a group of teenagers under the Craigflower Bridge before Sim drowned her in a nearby waterway. The documents say Sim is striving to have a “pro-social life,” raising her two children as a single mother after splitting with their father, though she’s frustrated and anxious about being required to live at a “community-based residential facility” in the Lower Mainland. The board’s decision to continue her day parole says Sim has improved her ability to manage stress and maintained her sobriety, finding that her release will “contribute to the protection of society by facilitating (her) reintegration into society as a law-abiding citizen.”
