Govt amends guidelines for disposal of enemy properties
Centre has amended the guidelines for disposal of the enemy property worth below Rs 1 crore located in rural areas and such property valued below Rs 5 crore in urban areas. Assets left behind by people who have taken citizenship of Pakistan and China — mostly between 1947 and 1962 — are called enemy property. In a notification, the Union Home Ministry said while disposing of the enemy property valued below Rs 1 crore in a rural area and valued below Rs 5 crore in an urban area, the custodian shall offer of purchase to the occupant first and if the occupant refuses the offer of purchase, then the enemy property shall be disposed of in accordance with already laid down norms i.e. by inviting tender or by holding public action. The home ministry also clarified that the 'rural area' means any area in a state except those areas covered by any urban local body or a Cantonment Board. Similarly, an 'urban area' means any area within the limits of a municipal corporation or municipality, or the central government may, having regard to the population, concentration of industries, need for proper planning of the area and other relevant factors, by general or special order, declare to be an urban area.

Who is the British Royal family's secret weapon? This lesser-known royal
A former royal staffer and a low-key royal have won over the British public's affection, despite the fact that family members like Princess Anne and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh continue to have a lot of engagements on the calendar. In response to a question concerning the possibility of a reduced monarchy, former royal butler Paul Burrell, speaking for Spin Genie, advises not to rule out Princess Anne's 43-year-old daughter Zara Tindall and her 45-year-old husband Mike Tindall for helping out with royal responsibilities, as quoted in a report by Marie Claire.

Kangana Ranaut's movie Emergency gets censor certificate; release date soon
The CBFC's clearance comes after some back-and-forth between the filmmakers and the board. Co-produced by Zee Entertainment, the production had agreed to make several cuts suggested by the censor board, ending a prolonged period of uncertainty regarding its release. Kangana Ranaut, who directed and co-produced the film, expressed her relief on social media, tweeting: «We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency. We will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support.» The film, initially slated for release on September 6, faced delays after objections were raised by Sikh organizations, particularly the Shiromani Akali Dal, which argued that the film misrepresented certain historical facts. This led to a temporary stall in the release of the film's trailer, adding to the challenges the production had already faced.

Meet the tribe that still mummifies its dead and here's how they do it
Papua New Guinea, there is a tribal community that still keeps the tradition alive. The Anga tribe practices the mummification of their deceased ancestors as a way to stay connected with them. The Anga people, who number around 45,000, use a distinct method of mummification that involves smoking the body for three months. Unlike the ancient Egyptian technique, the body remains seated and is positioned over a fire. During the process, the mummifiers carefully drain the body’s fluids by poking it and use a wooden stick to widen the anus, allowing the organs to exit. The procedure is highly meticulous, with every detail attended to in order to avoid any mistakes that might bring ill omens. The dead body is then coated with red clay for preservation and placed in jungle shrines.

Salman Khan Vs Lawrence Bishnoi: When former girfriend Somy Ali requested forgiveness for the actor
Somy Ali, who was once in an alleged relationship with Salman Khan, made a heartfelt appeal to the Bishnoi community back in May 2024, requesting forgiveness for the actor’s involvement in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. The case, which has haunted Khan for over two decades, resurfaced with threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, whose community holds blackbucks sacred. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Ali asked for compassion, stating that while mistakes were made, they shouldn’t lead to violence or threats. Ali remarked that everyone makes mistakes, but that doesn’t mean a person deserves to be killed or harmed. She further emphasized that the incident took place many years ago, when Khan was younger, and urged the community to forgive him. She said, “Even today, I do make mistakes; you also make mistakes. We'll keep making mistakes till we are alive, it's human nature. This is innately built within us and nobody is perfect. But if you're attempting to kill someone or firing bullets on him then you're crossing the line. I don't support hunting as a sport but this event took place so many years ago. Salman was much younger in 1998. I want to request the head of the Bishnoi tribe to forget about it and move on. I apologise on his behalf (Salman) if he has made a mistake and please forgive him.”

Vance says 'no' when asked whether Trump lost 2020 election
JD Vance has repeatedly deflected questions about whether the Republican presidential nominee lost the 2020 election, saying he was focused on the future. During a rally in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, where Vance was asked by a reporter about his lack of straight answers so far, he was more declarative. «What message do you think it sends to independent voters when you do not directly answer the question Did Donald Trump lose in 2020?'» the reporter asked, eliciting boos from the crowd before Vance responded, saying he has answered the question «a million times.» «No. I think there were serious problems in 2020,» Vance said. «So, did Donald Trump lose the election? Not by the words that I would use, OK?»

Concept of Khalistan as artificial as Pakistan was in its infancy: US expert
Michael Rubin has described the concept of Khalistan as artificial as Pakistan was in its infancy and cautioned the USA establishment against entertaining any Khalistani figures. In an article titled ‘Khalistani Extremism: A Growing Threat In The U.S. And Canada’ in the National Security Journal, Rubin explained, “Khalistan today is as artificial as Pakistan was in its infancy. Sir Muhammad Iqbal, Choudhry Rahmat Ali and Muhammad Ali Jinnah created the concept of Pakistan to be a separate state for Muslims upon India’s independence. The name Pakistan, coined by Rahmat Ali, was completely artificial: It was both an anagram, taking the P from Punjab, A from Afghan, K from Kashmir, S from Sindh, I from the Indus River Valley, and the last four letters from Baluchistan, and a pun: Pakistan is both a Persian and Urdu word meaning “land of the pure.”” “Khalistan, likewise, has no historical basis. As with Pakistan, Khalistan literally means “land of the pure,” although it substitutes the Persian/Urdu “Pak” for the Punjabi/Arabic “Khalis.” Khalistani separatists use the term to frame their demand for an independent Sikh state in Punjab. Sikhs comprise slightly over half the population of Indian Punjab; their population is now near zero in Pakistani Punjab due to decades of Pakistani sectarian cleansing,” he alleged.

The organization highlighted several concerning issues reported in the past month, including two extrajudicial killings of blasphemy suspects by police, crackdowns on protests, the enactment of the restrictive Peaceful Assembly and Public Order Act 2024, arbitrary detention and mass arrests of opposition workers and leaders, a ban on the Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM), and harassment of human rights defenders like Mahrang Baloch.
