markets Blockchain Progressive Enterprise War 2020 Department ET Explains: Using blockchain to check spam is a work in progress
The telecom regulator's ambitious project to deploy blockchain for a first-of-its-kind use case of checking spam through telecom channels-SMS and voice-has had multiple setbacks since its deployment started in 2020. Price wars among telecom companies, a lack of seriousness among enterprise senders of commercial messages, and evolving tactics among spammers are helping spam continue largely unabated while blocking some genuine messages to customers. Back in March 2021, nearly 50%, or 370 million, commercial messages, including OTPs, failed to deliver when the template filtering system was first implemented. Another such disruption-albeit not of that scale-is expected to occur from September 1 when weblinks filtering will go live. ET explains the regulations and their impact over the years. What are TCCCPR Regulations? Back in 2018, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) overhauled the primitive anti-spam regulations to bring in the Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation (TCCCPR) 2018.

Cooper security Election Universities country Department rights GenAI levels the playing field: Mercedes Soria of robotics security company Knightscope
artificial intelligence can enable Indians — even those who do not have a technical background — to solve the country’s most pressing problems, according to Mercedes Soria, executive vice-president and chief intelligence officer at US robotics security company Knightscope. “Now, all we have to worry about is, are we solving the right problem,” said Soria, who was on an India visit to share her expertise on machine learning and AI. Soria is a speaker for the United States Department of State on technology and women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). “In the future, it’s not going to be so much that you have to be technical to have a startup and solve a problem. It’s going to be more of, do you identify the right problem to solve, and then the technology like Gen AI will help you,” she said. Problems can be solved even by those who can’t write a single line of code, she added. This is a ‘massive opportunity’ for India with its large population and unique local issues. Young people in India, including high schoolers, are very familiar with and using tools like ChatGPT, whereas in the US this is seen more among those in university, Soria noted.

Provident WhatsApp wellness Justice Department Courts Supreme Court to see if Black Money Act can be used retrospectively
Supreme Court has agreed to look into the retrospective applicability of a provision in the Black Money (Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets) Imposition of Tax Act, 2015, under which the revenue department can initiate criminal prosecution against businesspeople for violations that were allegedly committed much before the law came into force. A bench led by Justice Abhay S Oka, while issuing notices to various businessmen, stayed the Karnataka High Court's June judgment that held retrospective applicability of section 72 of the 2015 Act as unconstitutional. The apex court posted the matter for further hearing on September 20. On June 7, the high court had held that criminal prosecution initiated for acts done prior to the enactment of the law were not valid under Article 20 of the Constitution. Citi Waters BAY Death Golf consequences Department Delhi drowning in its trash, silt, and AAP govt's feuds with Centre
Delhi. Not so much because of the rain, but because it has caused residents to drown to death, from those attempting to walk through flooded roads to unfortunate IAS candidates caught off guard by a sudden flood in their coaching center's basement library. In fact, new waterlogging zones have recently emerged in almost every part of the city, from Zakhira in West Delhi to Satya Niketan off Dhaula Kuan to the SPA-Kotla road axis to the posh Golf Links Road and Lutyens bungalows, which found themselves in nearly knee-deep water this rainy season. The looming question is whether this is due to the high rainfall levels alone, or if it is a man-made disaster unfolding in the capital, exacerbated by the AAP government's decade-long political slugfest with the Centre?

markets COST Mobile President country Department rights Has e-commerce boom really hampered the growth of brick-and-mortar retail?
Narendra Modi's BJP came to power. As then-secretary, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (Dipp), Kant was presiding over a stakeholder discussion on whether multi-brand retail should be allowed in India. Over a decade since, Piyush Goyal has, yet again, highlighted his government's concerns over the growth of ecommerce in India — that there will be social disruption, there is predatory pricing in ecommerce, and the number of mobile stores in the country has declined over the past 10 years. He is concerned — and rightly so — about the fate of millions of small retailers and kirana stores in the country. The point that I made to Kant in 2014 still stands: ecommerce offers consumers a much wider variety of products, whether coloured socks, numbered swimming goggles or air-purifiers. It benefits both sellers and buyers. Customers in Tier-2 and -3 towns access a wider variety of products online, without relying on someone to go to a metro to purchase it. Sellers find buyers across the country.
