US weekly jobless claims at five-month low
unemployment benefits fell to a five-month low last week and consumer spending increased more than expected in September, showcasing the economy's strength heading into the final stretch of 2024 and just days before next Tuesday's presidential election. Though prices pushed higher last month, inflation is firmly on a downward trend, with other data on Thursday showing labor costs posting their smallest gain in more than three years in the third quarter. The data likely keeps the Federal Reserve on track to cut interest rates next week and again in December. «We are not concerned that inflation's progress toward the Fed's target is stalling, let alone reaccelerating,» said Ryan Sweet, chief economist at Oxford Economics.

Russian military. The announcement was made by US Treasury and State Departments in what they described as «third-country enablers”. However, there is no independent verification if these Indian firms were part of efforts to boost Russian military apparatus. “…The U.S. Department of the Treasury sanctioned 275 individuals and entities involved in supplying Russia with advanced technology and equipment that it desperately needs to support its war machine. Today’s action targets both individual actors and sprawling sanctions evasion networks across 17 jurisdictions, including India, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Switzerland, Thailand, and Türkiye,” according to the announcement.

Ayodhya Deepotsav sets two new Guinness World Records in spectacular Diwali celebration on Lord Ram's land
Deepotsava since the installation of Ram Lalla in the newly built temple. Words like “Amazing, Youthful, Opulent, Dynamic, Heavenly, Yellow glow, and Admirable” barely capture the city's vibrant spirit as it welcomed devotees and tourists for this year’s historic festivities. Wednesday’s celebration marked the achievement of two Guinness World Records, set by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department, Ayodhya District Administration, and Saryu Arti Samiti. Ayodhya broke the record for the largest display of oil lamps, with 2,512,585 diyas lighting up the banks of the Saryu River. The second record saw 1,121 people performing ‘diya’ rotations simultaneously in a grand aarti, showcasing Ayodhya’s unity in devotion. Deepotsava, a five-day festival, commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after his 14-year exile and has grown in both cultural significance and tourism appeal. Since 2017, Ayodhya has transformed, drawing millions annually. Local businesses thrived as visitors flooded the city, with new hotels and nighttime activities enhancing Ayodhya’s vibrancy.
