Stock market set to plateau after euphoria of last four years: Zerodha’s Nithin Kamath
stock market growth is set to plateau after the euphoria of the last four years which led to record participation of retail investors and this will have an impact on the growth prospects for the Bengaluru-based firm in the coming years, said Nithin Kamath, chief executive officer, Zerodha. “Zerodha’s performance would be highly correlated with the performance of the markets, and given the euphoria in the last three to four years, it is difficult to continue with the same optimism for the next few years,” Kamath said. Since reaching the peak of 85,000 in September, the BSE is currently trading at around 77,500, falling steadily over multiple trading sessions.

Digital advertisers need to think beyond Google

The US Department of Justice’s (DoJ) antitrust case against Google may have wrapped up, but whether the court rules for or against it, there’s no denying the case highlighted a crucial issue—the company’s dominant hold over the digital advertising market. After COP29 impasse, all eyes on Rio G20 meet
BAKU: As ministers take over at the climate talks in the Azerbaijani capital, all eyes are on Rio, where the leaders of the G20 are meeting. The first week of the UN climate summit closed with the scheduled assembly late on Saturday night that lasted a little over three hours, ending at around half hour past midnight. The divergences among countries on important issues, such as finance and the path forward on the outcomes of last year's global stock take, and the absence of trust became apparent as countries took the floor to air their views. On some issues such as loss and damage and adaptation, and mitigation work programme the absence of trust and compromise among countries was such that «Rule 16» was invoked. Rule 16 refers to a provision which is used when countries can't even agree to produce an outcome that puts on record the discussions and divergent views. As a result, countries will have to begin their discussions all over again when they meet in Bonn in the summer. The lack of trust most evident on the issue of how countries propose to address and implement the decisions on emission reduction and energy transition agreed to in Dubai and the lack of any real progress on making available climate finance to developing countries.

Modi building wall between Gujarati and others: Uddhav
Uddhav Thackeray claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah are erecting a barrier between Gujarat and the rest of the country by prioritising Gujarat above other states. «I keep saying, I don't have any issues with Gujaratis or Gujaratis. Those Gujarati brothers and sisters who are watching this, you have been living for several years in Mumbai and Maharashtra. We have never fought. However, between you (Gujarati) and the rest of the country Modi and Shah are building a wall that you need to be careful about,» said Thackeray. The UBT Sena President was addressing a rally at the Bandra Kurla complex on Sunday. He added, «Modi and Shah may go but this wall that is being built would be worse than the German wall. It would take years to break this wall and till then there would be a lot of mayhem. Why are you doing this sin? If you take all our industries and business from here to Gujarat then what do the people in this state supposed to do,» questioned Uddhav Thackeray.

Maharashtra polls: It's tight, but there's no rebel and I will win, says Prithviraj Chavan on Karad South seat
Karad South has only had three MLAs representing it — Yashwantrao Mohite from 1952 to 1980, Vilas Patil from 1980 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2019, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress. The constituency has been known as a Congress bastion for several decades which the BJP hopes to change this time. BJP's candidate is Atul Bhosle, who is not a novice in the constituency. Bhosle, whose family runs a sugar factory and a medical college, has contested twice against Chavan since 2014. While Bhosle lost both times, the BJP and Bhosle have been taking confidence from Chavan's declining winning margins and Bhosle's improved performance. In 2014, Chavan got 76,831 votes and won by just 16,000 votes, Bhosle came a distant third. The 2014 elections were interesting as Vilas Patil, the Congress sitting MLA, was denied a ticket in favour of Chavan. The latter contested as an independent and got 60,000 votes.

Maharashtra polls: Three leading candidates have Congress roots in Savner Assembly constituency
Savner Assembly constituency have one thing in common — their shared root in the Congress party — even as they are now fighting against each other as candidates of the Congress, BJP and as an Independent. Entrenched former Congress minister and four-term MLA Sunil Kedar this time is in the role of being the prime mover of the campaign of Congress candidate Anuja Kedar, his wife. His was not a voluntary retirement but a forced exit after his conviction and jailing in a cooperative bank scam case. «We are in the thick of elections. You can find out about the kind of work we have done here by talking to anybody in the constituency,» said an evasive Sunil Kedar. His local supporters insist his popularity has not waned even after his conviction. «Sunil Kedar has worked very hard for the development of Savner constituency. Even a child here knows that the case against him was framed, and the manner he was dragged to court and jail, were all part of political harassment and vendetta,» said Damasao Saoner, former Congress corporator of Savner Municipal Council.

Kharge likens BJP and RSS to poison; says 'poisonous snake should be killed'
Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday likened the BJP and RSS to «poison» and termed them as «politically most dangerous» in India. Addressing a rally in Sangli on the penultimate day before the campaigning for the Maharashtra assembly polls concluded, Kharge used the «killing the poisonous snake» analogy in his speech. «If there is anything which is politically the most dangerous in India is the BJP and RSS. They are like poison. If a snake bites, the person (who is bitten) dies...such a poisonous snake should be killed,» said Kharge. He targeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over the death of 10 newborns in a fire at a medical college.
