In letter to PM, Cong's Tagore questions logic behind decision to hike prices of 8 essential drugs
Congress MP Manickam Tagore has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority's recent decision to increase prices of eight commonly-used drugs and sought the establishment of an independent review committee to assess the real impact of the price hike. In the letter, Tagore said he was writing to express his concern regarding the recent decision by the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) to increase the ceiling prices of eight commonly-used drugs by 50 per cent. «While I understand that the government cited 'extraordinary circumstances' and 'public interest' as reasons for this increase, I believe it is crucial to clarify the rationale behind such a significant decision,» the Congress MP from Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar said. «This price hike affects vital medications for conditions like asthma, tuberculosis, bipolar disorder, and glaucoma, which are essential for millions of citizens,» Tagore said.

Maharashtra assembly elections: From more than two dozen seats in 2019, Congress now contesting only from 11; What's behind this deficit?
Congress is facing a significant reduction in its presence in Mumbai for the upcoming assembly elections, contesting only 11 seats compared to 30 in 2019. This is the party’s smallest seat share in years. After extensive discussions with Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Mumbai Congress President MP Varsha Gaikwad and MLA Aslam Shaikh, the party struggled to secure a better deal under the MVA alliance. Observers point out that many of the seats they are competing for are strongholds of the BJP, where Congress is unlikely to succeed.

Indian Army expands patrol in Eastern Ladakh's Demchok following PLA withdrawal
Indian Army has commenced full-scale patrolling in Demchok, eastern Ladakh, and will soon begin in Depsang Plains. This follows after initial patrols confirmed that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China dismantled its temporary structures and withdrew troops to pre-April 2020 positions. This action adheres to the October 21 agreement on "patrolling arrangements," concluding disengagement at two of the seven face-off sites that emerged from Chinese incursions in April-May 2020. Patrolling is done with prior notification to the PLA to avoid clashes. “Our patrols now have full unrestricted access to the five patrolling points (PPs) in Depsang and two in Demchok, which was earlier blocked by Chinese soldiers. The PLA, too, has begun its own patrols with prior information to us to prevent the possibility of any clash,” said a defence source in a TOI report.

BJP, which is in a tough situation following a former party functionary's revelations about the 2021 Kodakara black money case, by saying that it should «change its party symbol from lotus to a sack». Kerala PWD Minister P A Mohamed Riyas also attacked the opposition Congress by accusing it of being silent on the lack of any action in the black money case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). «Many things have been made clear by the new revelations and one of them is that BJP should change its party symbol from lotus to a sack,» the minister told reporters. While the minister attempted to show there was an arrangement between the BJP and the Congress as the grand old party was silent on the lack of ED action in the case, Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil claimed that there was actually a deal between the saffron party and the CPI(M).
