Rise in delinquencies: Banks buckle up, go slow on issuing new credit cards
Reserve Bank of India (RBI) data showed that the pace of new card additions slowed to 620,000 in September from 920,000 in August, a fall of nearly a third. New card issuances have fallen by more than 64% from the year earlier. The latest additions take the total credit cards in force to 106 million. Experts say that new card additions will slow further as lenders become wary of the unsecured segment. “New cards issuance was majorly led by HDFC Bank and SBI Cards. However, net new card additions are expected to slow down in the near term due to rising delinquencies in the credit card receivables,” said IDBI Capital analyst Bunty Chawla. “Lenders also remain cautious on new cards disbursements due to the RBI’s risk weight norms.”

F1 braces for more Max Verstappen-Lando Norris drama and Hamilton to drive revered Ayrton Senna's car
Max Verstappen suggests he won’t change his aggressive driving this weekend at the Brazilian Grand Prix as he bids for a fourth successive Formula 1 title. Lando Norris needs a win at Interlagos in Sao Paolo to maintain any realistic title hopes. New elements could spice up the clash between the drivers, who have received penalties in the past two races in Austin, Texas and Mexico for their boldness on the track. Interlagos has a new tarmac, rain is expected all weekend, and Verstappen received a five-place penalty on the grid after he and Red Bull decided to use a new engine.

Indian companies on global US sanctions list will not impact defence ecosystem
Indian companies sanctioned by the US as part of a global effort to crack down on supply of dual use items to Russia will not have a major impact on the domestic defence ecosystem as most of them are not linked to any major project. Only one of them has limited work with the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the armed forces. Out of the 19 Indian firms on the global list of 400 plus companies sanctioned, several are entities that seem to be just carrying out trading activities by purchasing western equipment including electronics and selling them to Russian companies that have been hit by western sanctions. Some of them, like Denvas Services, which mainly supplies digital kiosks for various services, also have Russian nationals as registered directors and shareholders. It is legal for Indian companies to have foreign nationals as directors and there are no sanctions on conducting work with Russian entities. The company has been accused of procuring US-origin microelectronics for use in its advanced Russian conventional weapons.

Trump is 'unstable', 'obsessed with revenge', 'out for unchecked power': Kamala Harris
Donald Trump is «unstable», «obsessed with revenge» and is «out for unchecked power», Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris said on Friday in an unprecedented attack on her Republican rival ahead of next week's US election. In a rally at Las Vegas, 60-year-old Harris, who is of Indian and African heritage, said Trump, 78, is all about «hate» and more division and that he would bring an «enemies list» to the White House, while she would carry a «to-do list» of priorities. Singer Jennifer Lopez joined the Democratic leader at the rally and called on voters, especially Latino Americans, to support Harris as cares about «not just some Americans, but all Americans». «We all know who Donald Trump is. He is not someone who is thinking about how to make your life better. He is someone who is increasingly unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance and he is out for unchecked power,» Harris said at the rally.

No more outdated B-schools: Redefining modern leadership
business leadership was defined by managers who ruled enterprises top-down. Shaped by the world wars and the Great Depression, leadership in enterprises was defined by an almost militaristic control established through stringent rules and dictums. A 21st-century leader, on the other hand, is empathetic, and visionary, and leads by inspiring their teams to achieve a common vision, rather than forcing them to work until they drop. The backlash following EY employee Anna Sebastian Perayil's death has highlighted how corporate India's conditions can be deemed, in many cases, as being 'inhumane'. Such conditions call attention to how Indian employees are among the most overworked in the world. It underlines two key questions: Are Indian workplaces desirable?

Mallikarjun Kharge's caution to his party's government in the state was an affirmation that it was on the brink of economic instability. In a post on 'X', BJP state president B Y Vijayendra said Kharge's words should serve as a warning. «AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge's caution to Maharashtra Congress on making reckless 'Guarantees' serves as a stark reminder of Congress' unsustainable promises in poll-bound states aimed solely at winning elections,» the Shikaripura MLA said. «Through his advice to Chief Minister Shri @siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shri @DKShivakumar, Shri @kharge has practically confirmed that Congress's guarantees have pushed Karnataka, once a progressive and revenue-surplus state, to the brink of economic instability,» the BJP state chief charged.

Iran adviser hints at expansion of missile range, nuclear doctrine review after Israel strikes
Kamal Kharrazi, an adviser to Iran's supreme leader, said on Friday that Tehran is likely to increase the range of its ballistic missiles and possibly review its nuclear doctrine, amid growing tensions with arch-enemy Israel and tit-for-tat missile and airstrikes. Asked by Lebanon-based pro-Iran broadcaster Al-Mayadeen whether Iran was ready if conflict were to expand after the recent strikes, Kharrazi said Iran was likely to up the range of its ballistic missiles beyond a self-imposed limit of 2,000 km (1,250 miles). He said that although Iran has the technical capability to produce nuclear weapons, it is currently held back by a fatwa, or religious decree, issued in the early 2000s by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Court approves Tupperware's sale to lenders, paving way for brand's exit from bankruptcy
bankruptcy judge approved a sale of Tupperware Brands on Tuesday, paving the way for the iconic food storage company to soon exit Chapter 11 protection and continue offering its products while undergoing a hoped-for revitalization. The sale given the court's green light in Delaware still is subject to closing conditions. US manufacturing drops to 15-month low in October
US manufacturing activity slumped to a 15-month low in October and factories faced higher prices for inputs. The Institute for Supply Management (ISM) said on Friday its manufacturing PMI fell to 46.5 last month, the lowest level since July 2023, from 47.2 in September. A PMI reading below 50 indicates contraction in the manufacturing sector, which accounts for 10.3% of the economy. The decline in the PMI could be reflecting a strike by factory workers at planemaker Boeing, which has halted the production of its best-selling 737 MAX as well as 767 and 777 wide-body programs. The labor strife contributed to depressing industrial production in September.
