Defence Ministry on Tuesday issued a clarification on possible penalties that could be imposed on General Electric Co. for severe delays in the delivery of jet engines that power the country’s light-combat aircraft. «It has been noted that some media organisations have carried a story that India plans to impose penalties on General Electric for delay in delivery of Tejas engines. The story is factually incorrect as there was no such proposal under consideration. The contract is between HAL and GE,» said a defence ministry official. Just last year, GE had signed a memorandum of understanding with Hindustan Aeronautics to produce an advanced version of the jet engines for India’s next generation light-combat aircraft.

PM E-Bus scheme through a Direct Debit Mandate (DDM) with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to the PM-eBus Sewa-Payment Security Mechanism (PSM) scheme, notified by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), states getting electric buses (e-buses) through this route will permit the centre to recover overdue amounts. Procurement and operation of e-buses by Public Transport Authorities (PTAs) is supported under the PM e-Bus PSM scheme. These buses are handed over to state government or union territory-controlled PTAs to operate them and recover costs through fares. Since the PTAs are in poor financial health, bus suppliers fear they will not be paid by the states. The PSM scheme addresses concerns of e-bus suppliers by ensuring timely payments to operators through a dedicated fund. In case of payment default by Public Transport Authorities (PTAs), Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL), the implementing agency, shall make necessary payments from the scheme funds which will be later recouped by the centre.

Hardeep Singh Puri on Tuesday asserted that Punjab should get fresh investments for setting up compressed biogas (CBG) and ethanol plants, and said he wrote to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann several times, but nothing happened on the ground. Replying to a question on the law and order issue in AAP-ruled Punjab, Puri said if the law and order is not right, then even the existing industry will also leave the state. Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Rozgar Mela here, Puri said entrepreneurs in Punjab should be encouraged to set up CBG plants in the state. «I feel pain that CBG plants are increasing in the country, but here (Punjab) CBG plants are finding it hard to run. If a CBG plant is run, it will benefit farmers. If an ethanol plant is set up, it will benefit farmers as they are run on biomass.

Swiggy is increasing its investment in its quick-commerce business, Swiggy Instamart to Rs 1,179 crore, up 20% from Rs 982 crore mentioned in the red herring prospectus filed on Tuesday. The Bengaluru-based company said it plans to invest Rs 755.4 crore to expand its dark store network, with an additional Rs 423.3 crore for lease and licensing payments for these stores or warehouses. Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt Ltd in Tamil Nadu has reached a milestone of producing over 45 lakh powertrain units since commencing operation in 2010, the company said. The 600 acre facility at Oragadam near here, caters to domestic and overseas market requirements for Renault and Nissan. Since the start of production, the factory produces Renault and Nissan brand of cars with over 2.75 million cars being produced till date, while the plant has produced seven different type of engines and three varieties of gearboxes. The milestone of producing over 4.5 million powertrain units at the factory includes 2.83 million engines and 1.67 million gearboxes, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

Cashfree Payments on Tuesday said it has received the Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) licence from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). With the PPI licence, the Bengaluru-based payment aggregator can offer digital payment solutions such as mobile wallets, prepaid cards and vouchers, which customers can load with funds and use for transactions. “The PPI licence opens up a new field of opportunity for innovation in the payments landscape. Our focus has always been to provide secure, flexible and efficient payment experiences to Indian businesses as well as their customers. The PPI licence will help us build offerings that let internet businesses retain and grow their user base,” said Akash Sinha, CEO and cofounder, Cashfree Payments.

Vridhi Home Finance has secured Rs 310 crore in equity funding from Norwest Venture Partners along with its existing investor Elevation Capital and the company’s founders. It comes after the company raised $18 million from Elevation Capital in its first institutional fundraising in October 2023. In a statement on Tuesday, Vridhi Home Finance said that it is investing in building a strong distribution network, in risk management practices and in its technology back end to create a digital home loan process.
