Mutual fund SIP and stock SIP – which is the safer bet? Arnav Pandya explains
Arnav Pandya, Founder, Moneyeduschool, says “in a stock SIP, if you want to get that same kind of benefit as a mutual fund SIP, you will first of all need to have multiple stock SIPs to get a diversified portfolio. Second is that you need to do that effort every month. You have a facility wherein your brokerage house itself gives you some facility to do an SIP but still you need to be very careful in terms of how you are going about it. So, in terms of risk, there is a big difference.”Everybody who is not directly investing in the stock markets finds the SIP way quite convenient. Firstly, what is your take on the mutual fund SIP as well as stock SIP route and how should one go about it? In terms of the returns, what should be the expectation and which one is a safer bet?If you look at the basic term of systematic investing, the whole concept is that you put in an amount which is similar on a regular basis with the end result that over a period of time due to variations in the equity prices, you will get an average cost. Now, as far as mutual funds are concerned, we are very familiar with the entire SIP process where every month, for example, you put in a specific amount and then you get units against this. But the main important factor when you do an SIP in a mutual fund is that you are getting exposure to a complete portfolio by investing in the units, so that is point number one.

What is a credit score? 5 ways to build good CIBIL score
Shweta Jain, Founder, Investography, says “there are two things to remember when you are inquiring. There is a soft inquiry that you yourself are doing. So, when you are checking on whether it is the CIBIL website or a GPAY website, for example, that also lets you check your CIBIL score or a site like a BankBazaar. You can check on your own by putting some basic information, that is called a soft inquiry because you are not really applying for a loan or anything versus if you are applying for a credit card or a loan, they will check your credit score which means that is a hard inquiry.”What is credit score? What is the likely range of a credit score, which credit score is considered to be the best one? Also, how can we build a good credit score? So, a credit score is a three-digit number between 300 and 900 that tells institutions how credit-worthy you are. The lower your number is, the worse off the credit score is and the higher it is, the better it is. It is basically a number that is issued by an institute like, say CIBIL, which gathers information about you. All the banking, financial history, transactions that you are doing, this information is collated and a number is assigned to you and that is a number between 300 and 900.

NSE proposal to extend trading hours in index options & futures only, not cash equity: Sriram Krishnan
Sriram Krishnan, Chief Business Development Officer, NSE, says “we have taken a bit of time to have these discussions because we wanted to cover all types of stakeholders, not just the domestic ones, but even the foreign portfolio investors. After a lot of discussions they have come up with this suggestion that we should not touch the cash equity segment, but it would be the right thing to do if we were to extend the trading hours for the equity derivative segment. So, for a start, we are looking at a session from 6 pm to 9 pm India time where we will offer index options and futures.”What is the National Stock Exchange plans for extending trading hours for equity derivatives? We submitted a proposal a couple of weeks back, I do not remember the exact date but very much in this month.

Dunzo may get $30-35 million; proposes to cut fixed costs, reduce burn rate further
Dunzo may only be able to secure $30-40 million in new funding, and that, too, with strings attached. The funding will come with onerous terms in favour of existing investors on liquidity preference, people aware of the matter said. A board meeting is expected to be held at the end of the week to approve the funding. To secure this much needed cash, Dunzo has also proposed to reduce its burn to $300,000 a month with a smaller team of just around 200, sources aware of the plans said. Until September, the cash-strapped company had a monthly burn rate of about $600,000. At the start of the year, Dunzo had more than 1,000 employees but has since undertaken three rounds of layoffs.

After last week’s 8% dip, will HDFC Bank shares attract bargain hunters? Anand James makes a point
Following an 8% drop last week, shares of HDFC Bank may attract buy-the-dip brigade but a sustained rally looks limited, says Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Financial Services. “Last week’s fall has eclipsed previous three weeks’ rise, highlighting the bearish undercurrents that is potentially signalling a prolonged bear phase that may not relent until Rs 1322 is seen. Alternatively, expect this view will be challenged if up moves unsettle Rs 1544-1555 region,” he says. Edited excerpts:Led by the downside in bank stocks, Nifty ended the week around 2% lower. Do you see some green signs in Friday's buying? How tough is it for bulls to hold on to the 20,000 mark? With Friday extending the week’s losses, we are within touching distance of the 19550 objective set at the start of last week. The proximity of the 50-day SMA at 19626 lends credence to the prospects of a pause to the week-long downtrend, or potentially a reversal move that could aim for 19956-80 as the initial objective. Alternatively, inability to float above 19600 or reclaim the 20030 mark on the bounce could signal resumption of downtrend aiming at 18600. The prospects of the same are low, but a possibility nevertheless.

G20 declaration should spur govt to give big push to MSMEs: Experts
G20 nations under India's presidency should spur the government to give a big push to the MSME sector by simplifying the regulatory process and enhancing their access to affordable capital, say experts. The commitments made in the G20's New Delhi declaration with regard to the MSMEs ought to be followed by the member nations as the sector has the potential to generate employment and promote sustained growth. The New Delhi Declaration adopted early this month said the G20 recognise that startups and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are natural engines of growth.

No volatility jump in Indian bonds after JPMorgan inclusion, says BlackRock
volatility in the near-term after JPMorgan announced India's inclusion in its widely tracked emerging market debt index, BlackRock's head of Asia Pacific fixed income said on Friday. JPMorgan said 23 Indian Government Bonds (IGBs) with a combined notional value of $330 billion were eligible for inclusion in its Government Bond Index-Emerging Markets (GBI-EM) index and index suite, benchmarked by about $236 billion in global funds. Neeraj Seth, chief investment officer and head of APAC fundamental fixed income at BlackRock, expects inflows of around $20 billion to $25 billion into India after the maximum weight threshold of 10% is achieved on the GBI-EM index. Given the size of the $2 trillion global government bond market, it may add only a little bit to the volatility in Indian bond markets, Seth told the Reuters Global Markets Forum. The volatility would become «more profound and visible» if foreign ownership were to go into double digits, Seth said, adding that he expected foreign ownership of Indian government bonds to rise to 3.0%-3.5% post-inclusion. «I don't think that's significant enough to move the markets around,» he said. Foreign investor buying in Indian bonds has remained tepid with net purchases of $3.4 billion so far in 2023. Foreign investors own less than 2% of outstanding government debt. Separately, Seth believes there will be a shift in asset allocations as markets head into 2024, which he sees becoming a «very attractive year», especially for U.S.
