The path ahead for China’s Belt and Road Initiative
Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), the scheme’s official name in English, as a gift to the world that has created huge economic benefits. China claims that 420,000 jobs have been created in BRI countries and 40m people lifted out of poverty thanks to BRI-generated growth. America, and many of its allies, see the BRI as far less benign: a political tool aimed at stifling foreign criticism of Mr Xi’s iron-fisted rule and providing a leg-up for his country’s firms that has saddled countries with crippling debt.

Aiming to bring agri NPAs down to 7%: Dinesh Kumar Khara, SBI
«As far as this quarter is concerned, inflation, of course, we have seen that for two months there was inflation which was outside the tolerance level of Reserve Bank of India,» says Dinesh Kumar Khara, Chairman, SBI.Should we pick it up from where we left last time, that SBI was getting ready for a new dance number, Tango Salsa? This is our effort and endeavour the way the economy is prospering. We want to be very much part of this growing economy, prospering economy and we want to ensure that there should not be any lever which we should not use to support the growth of this economy.

Time to be picky and go for high quality and good management stocks: Pashupati Advani
Pashupati Advani, Founder, Global Foray, says “ in autos, there is some build up in inventory with the dealers. It is going to go through a bit of a phase of consolidation as you mentioned. I would not jump into autos at these kinds of levels, I just sit on the side. Interest rates are higher; a lot of two-wheelers and four-wheelers are financed and that is going to put some kind of a cap on the market. So just hang on, there will be ample opportunity in my opinion.”What is your take on real estate stocks? They have been doing fairly okay for themselves of late. Again, is there a pocket that you are looking at, let us say maybe Mumbai facing real estate names or South Indian names or even NCR is coming back now?Mumbai and NCR have lagged because there is a lot of supply and it is taking time and I do not think the flats are cheap enough. The builders are still making money and in Maharashtra they are also waiting for the FSI to be increased, in which case the builders will make even more money and more people will be crammed into the same space. We are obviously seeing some traction in good quality second tier town builders and of course the big names like DLF and all are doing fine. It is a proxy for growth in India as more and more people buy homes, people are going to come into all the real estate companies. There are lots of big ones, it is a big component of the index and therefore the sector is enjoying itself.

Pashupati Advani on 4 sectors you can safely buy for next 7-8 months
Pashupati Advani, Founder, Global Foray, says “the government between now and the elections next May is going to try and complete a lot of infrastructure projects and that is going to put huge pressure on cement, steel, chemicals that are used in construction as well as the construction companies that have got the work. So, those are the ones that you can quite safely buy, at least for the intermediate term of the next seven to eight months which is like a good run.”Do you think there are more legs to the PSU banking rally and any stock that you would want to discuss from that pack? All PSUs are doing well simply because the government is spending and has a mission to get a lot of projects done and obviously the PSU banks are easily going to supply money for that. So, as long as that continues, one needs to be long on PSU banks simply because the government is not going to default, they are making a good spread on the interest and they are also expanding their books.

Oil India already received 80% of initial investment in Russia as part of dividend: Chairman
Ranjit Rath, Chairman, Oil India, says “after economic sanctions against Russia came in, about $150 million from Oil India point of view is lying in one of the State Bank of India’s branches in Moscow. It is a matter of time before we are able to negotiate and get the money repatriated. Multiple channels of discussion processes are being evaluated including the legal options alternatives, G2G engagements. So, it is absolutely not a concern.”On Oil India’s investment in current yearExploration, development and production would encompass about 7,500 crore investment on a standalone basis from Oil India Limited for the current year.

ETMarkets Smart Talk: Nifty@20K — IT and chemical sectors offer attractive risk-reward prospects, says Sunil Nyati
“The IT and chemical sectors offer attractive risk-reward prospects. A healthy correction in manufacturing, industrial, and PSU stocks presents a solid long-term entry point. In the financial and consumption sectors, selective buying is advisable,” says Sunil Nyati, Managing Director of Swastika Investmart Ltd. In an interview with ETMarkets, Nyati said: “The broader market is demonstrating exceptional performance, primarily attributable to the optimistic outlook for the Indian economy and robust domestic liquidity” Edited excerpts:We saw a steady rise in markets last week with the Nifty50 climbing to 20,000 levels. Do you think the upcoming US Fed meet could play a spoilsport? The market is currently experiencing a robust bullish trend, with the upcoming Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting poised to be a pivotal global catalyst.

Fully invested? It makes sense to have some cash, invest in a phased manner: Sandip Sabharwal
Sandip Sabharwal, asksandipsabharwal.com, says “the way the entire midcap index has moved, speculative stocks have moved more than the sort of established companies, etc so there is definitely froth. We need to be careful what we are buying. There are still opportunities in the midcap, smallcap segment where these companies might do well over the next two, three years.”Let us talk about sugar, the sweetest pocket in the market right now. Since you monitor the sector very closely, is it time to add positions further or would you say wait for a dip perhaps?Sugar has been one sector which has not performed despite a lot of things going well for them, both in terms of the weather disruptions in India and globally, which is going to cut this year's production growth. In some countries, we might actually see declines. We see global sugar prices at multi-year highs.
