IRDAI nod likely soon for IIHL's buyout of Reliance Capital's three insurance arms
IRDAI) is most likely to give the go-ahead to IndusInd International Holdings Limited's acquisition of Reliance Capital's three insurance companies within a couple of weeks, said people aware of the development. The insurance regulator believes Reliance Capital is a major non-banking financial company going through bankruptcy proceedings, which need to be closed within the time frame prescribed by the court, they said. Last week, the committee of creditors had asked IndusInd International Holdings (IIHL) to conclude the process by the May 27 deadline. However, IIHL had informed lenders that without the IRDAI's approval, it would not be able to conclude the transaction. On February 27, the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) gave its nod to IIHL's resolution plan worth ₹9,650 crore for Reliance Capital, formerly under the control of Anil Ambani. The NCLT directed IIHL to close the deal within a 90-day period. In March, in a letter to the administrator, the IRDAI had expressed reservations regarding IIHL's takeover of Reliance Capital, particularly about IIHL's diverse shareholder structure, under which no single entity holds more than a 10% stake. The IRDAI requested in-depth information on IIHL's shareholders, including their identities, countries of incorporation, citizenship, equity percentages and details of major shareholder groups.

How to make budget-friendly retirement planning with the help of mutual munds and insurance
Retirement planning is vital for securing your financial future. It ensures that you can maintain your lifestyle and meet expenses during your golden years. As the years go by, retirement becomes an increasingly pressing reality for every working individual. The prospect of retirement brings forth a multitude of uncertainties, but with proper planning, one can ensure a financially secure and comfortable future. In today’s dynamic financial landscape, two essential tools stand out for retirement planning: Mutual Funds (MF) and Insurance. Mutual Funds, with their diverse investment options, offer a robust platform for building a retirement corpus. Through systematic investment plans (SIPs), individuals can invest small amounts regularly, benefitting from the power of compounding over time. Equity Mutual Funds, known for their potential for high returns over the long term, can be a cornerstone of retirement planning, albeit with a higher risk. For those seeking stability, Debt Mutual Funds provide a safer avenue with moderate returns. Furthermore, retirement-oriented Mutual Fund schemes like Retirement Funds or Pension Funds are specifically designed to align with long-term retirement goals. These funds often dynamically adjust asset allocation over time, gradually shifting from high-risk to low-risk investments as retirement approaches, ensuring capital preservation.

Singaporeans cannot disavow ethnic roots with China and India: PM Lee
China, India and religious affinities, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Wednesday as he appealed for cohesion in his last major speech before stepping down from the leadership of the prosperous city-state in two weeks. «Social cohesion is important and race, language, and religion are traditional fault lines that will never go away for Singapore. While huge efforts have been made to build a shared Singaporean identity, the nation will always be subject to external forces that pull different segments of its population in different directions,» Lee said as he delivered the keynote address at the May Day Rally. «We cannot disavow our diverse ethnic roots and religious affinities — Chinese Singaporeans with China, Indian Singaporeans with their various ancestral homes in India, Malay Singaporeans with the rest of our region, and with the global Muslim Ummah,» Lee said impressing on the citizens of prosperous island state nestled in the heart of Southeast Asia.

If Hindus still in danger after decade of BJP rule, it should not return to power: Kirti Azad
Kirti Azad sought to poke holes in the BJP's Hindu nationalism plank, saying if the saffron party persists in using the «Hindu Khatre mein» (Hindus in danger) narrative despite being in power for ten years, it raises doubts about the party's necessity to return to power. The former BJP MP-turned-TMC nominee from West Bengal's Bardhaman-Durgapur Lok Sabha seat, also said the issue of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) was a «ploy to communalise the polls» since the saffron camp «lacks an impressive report card to present before the masses». In an interview with PTI, Azad highlighted India's diversity and argued against the feasibility of implementing UCC in such a varied cultural landscape while stressing that history belies BJP's claims of Hindu insecurity under previous regimes. «During the Mughal rule, Hindus were not under threat; they were not in peril during British rule; even under multiple governments post-Independence, Hindus never faced any perceived danger. So how come Hindus are suddenly in danger when a Hindu nationalist party is in power for the last 10 years?» he argued.

Public policy education could make a better country if done right
India’s rapid economic growth and increasingly complex social and public challenges underscore the need for robust public-policy education. However, public policy programmes fall short of adequately preparing the next generation of policymakers, civil servants and engaged citizens. Traditionally, public policy education in India has been confined to post-graduate degree programmes, often offered in isolation from the real-world complexities that policymakers face.
