Investing.com — U.S. stock futures were trading slightly higher during Tuesday night trade, following a negative session for major benchmark averages.

Investing.com — The Dow tumbled to its close at its lowest level since March, as weaker consumer confidence data fueled worry about the economy just as consumers face higher for longer interest rates and inflation that could rein in spending.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 144.20 points, or 0.42%, at the open to 33,862.68. The S&P 500 opened lower by 24.56 points, or 0.57%, at 4,312.88, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 90.36 points, or 0.68%, to 13,180.96 at the opening bell.

Wall Street's main indexes posted gains on Monday, with increases in Amazon.com shares and the energy sector, as Treasury yields rose further and investors looked to economic data and Federal Reserve policymakers' remarks later in the week for clarity on the path for interest rates. Investors are grappling with the rise in benchmark Treasury yields to 16-year highs after the Fed gave a hawkish longer-term rate outlook. The S&P 500 rebounded on Monday after last week it had its biggest weekly drop since March. There is a «tug of war between investors seemingly getting more concerned about 'higher for longer'… and bulls wondering maybe we have seen the correction and we can start to build from these levels higher,» said Chuck Carlson, chief executive officer at Horizon Investment Services. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 43.04 points, or 0.13%, to 34,006.88; the S&P 500 gained 17.38 points, or 0.40%, at 4,337.44; and the Nasdaq Composite added 59.51 points, or 0.45%, at 13,271.32. Among S&P 500 sectors, energy led the way, rising 1.3%, while materials gained 0.8%.

A sluggish day for stocks is keeping September on track to be the worst month of the year for Wall Street

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 56.25 points, or 0.17%, at the open to 33,907.59.

Shares of Dow (NYSE:DOW) gained 1.4% in pre-open trading Monday following an upgrade of the industrial conglomerate given its attractive dividend.

logged its worst week in over 15 months on lingering worries over a higher global interest rate environment following the US Federal Reserve's hawkish tone. Nifty 50 closed with a loss of 68 points, or 0.34 per cent, at 19,674.25 while the Sensex ended at 66,009.15, down 221 points, or 0.33 per cent. While domestic investors offloaded in healthcare, consumer durable and commodity stocks, foreign fund outflows and a steep decline in HDFC Bank shares also hit market sentiment.

The broad-based S&P 500 finished at 4,320.06, down 0.2 percent for the day and 2.9 percent for the week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.3 percent to 33,963.84, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.1 percent at 13,211.81.
