Yields at the long-end rose quickly after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said last week that the U.S.

Indians want more vegetables, this continues pushing inflation higher
Reserve Bank of India and government officials may brush aside the seasonal bumps in vegetable prices terming it 'transient'. Yet, structural issues mean that the instances of such spikes have only increased in recent times, forcing the policymakers to focus on the short-term, analysts said on Monday. Higher incomes have meant that Indians now prefer higher consumption of non-cereal products like meat, pulses, fruits and vegetables.

Why buyers prefer to purchase their dream homes during the festive season
It is that time of the year when the country is gearing up for the festive season beginning from Ganesh Chaturthi leading into Navratri, Diwali, Christmas and New Year. Apart from the festivity and shopping splurges that are high during this time, investments also play a key role, especially in terms of real estate that has been gaining ground as properties are seen as a stronger and consistent investment medium than traditional alternatives. As we herald the festive season, we anticipate that residential real estate sector will grow by around 20% growth.

Korea’s early export gain points to recovering global demand
South Korea’s early exports returned to growth for the first time in more than a year in another indication of recovering external demand that will offer some reassurance to investors and policymakers monitoring the health of global commerce. Daily average shipments for the first 20 days of October increased 8.6% from a year earlier in the first gain since September last year, according to data released Monday from the customs office. The increase is a positive indication that world trade is starting to regain strength after a global slowdown. South Korea releases its data earlier than many economies and due to its key position in global supply chains and the tech sector, its export figures are watched closely to get an early take on the trajectory of world trade.

Market should spend more time in 18,000-20,000 range before forging ahead: Hemant Kanawala
Hemant Kanawala, Head-Equity, Kotak Life Insurance, says of late, we have seen that the largecaps have by and large stayed flat but we have seen a lot of rallies happening in the midcaps and smallcaps but as far as the largecaps have been concerned, that phase can continue for another six months. We will also have election uncertainty after six months. We believe that the market should spend some more time in the 18,000-20,000 before making further progress backed by earnings. How would you evaluate the market at the moment? You are seeing it largely being range-bound. Is this a phase of consolidation? Will there be more buying opportunities? In the last two years, broadly the market has been consolidating in the 18,000-20,000 range. We made a high of 18,500 two years back and we have slightly moved up in line with the earnings. So, currently, the Indian micro is doing very well. Corporate India is reporting strong earnings growth. Even the PMI activity reported is on a good side. The Indian economy is doing well. But we are seeing challenges from the external environment.

Yen loiters around 150 as Middle East anxiety heightens
Japan's yen took the spotlight in Asia on Monday, circling the 150-per-dollar level in a tug of war between investors betting on a further rise in dollar yields and those expecting Japanese authorities will intervene in markets. The week kicks off with growing worries about the Middle East conflict as Israel bombarded Gaza with air strikes early on Monday, extending a two-week bombardment that began after an Oct. 7 rampage by Islamist group Hamas on southern Israeli communities, and as the United Statese dispatched more military assets to the region. Individual investors should avoid trading in F&O segment as it’s clearly a loss-making proposition
futures and options (F&O) trading was a loss-making proposition for investors. The report revealed that 89% investors lost money through these activities, and only 11% made profits. Separately, in an interview with Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath some time ago, I learnt that there are no more than 5 lakh derivatives traders in the entire country.
