US weekly jobless claims at five-month low
unemployment benefits fell to a five-month low last week and consumer spending increased more than expected in September, showcasing the economy's strength heading into the final stretch of 2024 and just days before next Tuesday's presidential election. Though prices pushed higher last month, inflation is firmly on a downward trend, with other data on Thursday showing labor costs posting their smallest gain in more than three years in the third quarter. The data likely keeps the Federal Reserve on track to cut interest rates next week and again in December. «We are not concerned that inflation's progress toward the Fed's target is stalling, let alone reaccelerating,» said Ryan Sweet, chief economist at Oxford Economics.

Buzz Aldrin takes a giant leap, endorses Donald Trump for US Presidential Election
Buzz Aldrin, the second person to walk on the moon, has endorsed Donald Trump for the upcoming US Presidential elections. In a press release dated October 30, Aldrin expressed his support for Trump, highlighting the nation's pursuit of ambition, hope, and innovation. «America is a nation of bold ambition, hope, and energy. We are a nation of free thought, free association, and free movement. We are a nation that allows the best of humanity to emerge, and we strive for great things,» Aldrin said. He recalled his involvement in the mission to put a man on the Moon 50 years ago and voiced his disappointment in the government's inconsistent approach to space exploration. Aldrin, reflecting on his historic Apollo 11 mission over fifty years ago, voiced his disappointment with the government's fluctuating commitment to space exploration. He noted, «the government approach to space had waxed and waned,» describing it as a dynamic that «disappointed» him. However, he praised the Trump administration for reinvigorating national efforts in space, saying, «Under the first Trump Administration, I was impressed to see how human space exploration was elevated, made a policy of high importance again.»

Changed loyalties, Baba Siddique murder to cast shadow on election in Bandra East
Bandra East was a Shiv Sena stronghold until the last Maharashtra assembly elections, but with a triangular contest this time, the outcome in this suburban Mumbai seat has become more unpredictable. Zeeshan Siddique, then with Congress, won from the constituency in 2019, defeating the undivided Shiv Sena's Vishwanath Mahadeshwar, a former mayor. Zeeshan might have an edge due to the sympathy factor in the aftermath of his father, NCP leader and former Congress minister Baba Siddique's murder earlier this month. But locals also say that his decision to join the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party, an ally of the BJP, could go against him as the constituency has a sizable Muslim population. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP is part of the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP 'Mahayuti' alliance.

Trump and Harris in a dead heat: Billionaire Ken Griffin says the ex-President is expected to win the U.S election
Republican Party Ken Griffin expects that former US President Donald Trump is likely to win the upcoming US Presidential election on November 5, reported Fortune. In a panel discussion at Future Investment Initiative Summit in Saudi Arabia, he added that Donald Trump has successfully gained momentum in the recent polls and he is certainly leading up the prediction markets up to the US Presidential Election day. Fortune reported that Ken Griffin is positively known as a significant contributor in the committees of Republican political action who donates $100 million approximately during the cycle of every election. But lately he has also been seen to be refrained from directly supporting the campaign of Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump as he focuses on the candidates who belong to the military and business backgrounds in the primary races. The US Presidential race remains competitive despite the rising popularity of Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump. Several polls coming from the sources like the New York Times/Siena College and Reuters/Ipsos show that there is a narrow lead held by US Vice President Kamala Harris over Donald Trump.

UK celebrates Diwali with hope for 'magic moment' to light candle on India FTA
Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India and is building towards that magic moment, Britain's minister in charge of the Indo-Pacific said during a special Diwali reception in London. Catherine West, parliamentary under-secretary of state in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), referenced the previous Conservative government's Diwali 2022 deadline to complete the FTA negotiations as she reiterated the recently elected Labour government's commitment to get the deal done. The FTA negotiations, which were paused for general elections in both countries, are aimed at significantly enhancing the estimated GBP 38.1 billion a year bilateral trading partnership. «As the new government, we're still extremely keen to be getting on with our trade deal, which was meant to be signed a couple of Diwalis ago. But we don't mind, what's a Diwali between friends,» said West, addressing the FCDO's gathering of parliamentarians, community leaders and professionals at Lancaster House to celebrate the Festival of Lights. «Our new Comprehensive Strategic Partnership is in the works, and all of these things go to building towards that magic moment where we light the candle on the free trade agreement. While I'm thinking of a lot of different things (this Diwali), it would be good to light the candle on that deal. Please pray for those negotiations, so we can have the light that goes on to the best positive feelings and the magic that you do get when you get a deal,» she said.
