Will Donald Trump take this big risk; use U.S troops to rescue hostages held captive by Hamas? His special envoy for hostages has this to say
US President- elect Donald Trump has pretty recently appointed Adam Boehler as his special envoy for hostage affairs which is a role that comes amidst the ongoing tensions related to hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, reported The Teleraph. According to the Telegraph, Adam Boehler, who has already and previously helped negotiate the Abraham Accords, has also being advocated for using US Special Forces to rescue hostages while suggesting that the US President Joe Biden administration's reluctance to use military force has put US citizen lives at huge risk. Currently, approximately 100 hostages are believed to be held by Hamas following the attacks on the month of October which resulted in numerous casualties. SEOUL—South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung credits a coup and stretch of military rule more than 40 years ago—during which soldiers opened fire on pro-democracy protesters in the southwestern city of Gwangju, killing many—with propelling him into politics. Now, a short-lived attempt by South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol last week to impose martial law has thrust Lee to within striking distance of his nation’s top job, as Yoon faces impeachment efforts and members of his cabinet are under criminal investigation.

'Polarization' is Merriam-Webster's 2024 word of the year
«Polarization means division, but it's a very specific kind of division,» said Peter Sokolowski, Merriam-Webster's editor at large, in an exclusive interview with The Associated Press ahead of Monday's announcement. «Polarization means that we are tending toward the extremes rather than toward the center.» The election was so divisive, many American voters went to the polls with a feeling that the opposing candidate was an existential threat to the nation. According to VoteCast, a survey of more than 120,000 voters, about 8 in 10 Kamala Harris voters were very or somewhat concerned that Donald Trump's views — but not Harris' — were too extreme, while about 7 in 10 Trump voters felt the same way about Harris — but not Trump.

Why Bidenomics let Democrats down despite its focus on helping the US working-class
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. As US president, Joe Biden charted a new economic path for the Democrats by siding unabashedly with the working class and introducing a wide range of industrial policies to reinvigorate US manufacturing, reshore supply chains and promote the green transition. Most of these new policies made economic sense, and like many other progressives, I thought they made political sense as well.

Maharashtra Congress chief urges ECI, SC to consider 'public demand' for ballot paper voting
Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Patole on Sunday urged the Supreme Court and the Election Commission to take note of the «growing public demand» for ballot paper voting in view of «doubts» about the mandate in assembly elections. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has upped the ante against Electronic Voting Machines (EVMS) after the BJP-led Mahayuti won 230 out of 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly elections. Patole claimed the Mahayuti victory didn't reflect the mandate of the people. «There is a widespread confusion among people about the new state government. A strong sentiment suggests that the government doesn't reflect the people's mandate,» Patole told reporters.

Syria's Baath party oversaw half a century of repression
Assad dynasty was a feared instrument of repression, ruthlessly ruling over the country until Sunday when the government collapsed under a shocking rebel offensive. In 2011, President Bashar al-Assad — who has reportedly fled the country as rebels took Damascus — cracked down on peaceful pro-democracy protesters with bullets when the Arab Spring reached Syria. Like his father Hafez before him, Bashar chose force to fight any opposition for the 24 years that he ruled the country.

Sharad Pawar wants to say Rahul Gandhi's leadership is not capable: BJP's Pravin Darekar
BJP leader Pravin Darekar on Sunday stated that Sharad Pawar support for West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's willingess to lead the INDIA bloc, meant that the Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief wanted to convey Rahul Gandhi's leadership is «incapable» and that now Congress is «unable» to lead the opposition alliance. «I think this means that Pawar Sahab wants to say that Rahul Gandhi's leadership is not capable and Congress can't lead now. So, Pawar Sahab's direction is towards one side and words on the other side. Only time will tell what is in his mind,» Darekar told ANI. Sharad Pawar on Saturday acknowledged the leadership potential of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, emphasising her prominence as a national leader and the competence of her party's representatives in Parliament.

Manu Joseph: Trump’s victory has exposed the worst argument of the West
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. The worst argument of the West that I have encountered is that fake news changed public opinion and gave the world Donald Trump, and that this sort of propaganda creates the myth of other strongmen across the world. Like some bad Western theories, the view has developed the aura of a common truth even as evidence grows that it is highly unlikely and this view itself could be a piece of fake news.
