MUMBAI : British officials negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) are advocating bottling their whisky ‘in transit’ in a third country for reasons related to cost, logistics, and ‘premium-ness’ of the products, a person aware of the development said. Negotiations on alcoholic beverages assume significance as India considers opening its vast market to countries such as the UK, Australia, Canada, and the European Union (EU) under the FTA route. India emerged as the world’s largest consumer of scotch whisky—a key UK export—last year.

Mumbai: Payment solutions provider Hitachi Payment Services on Wednesday said it has entered into an agreement with Writer Corp, a multi-business enterprise, to acquire its cash management business. Writer Safeguard, the cash management business of Writer Corp, has been providing services including ATM cash replenishment and retail cash pick-up services to corporate clients in India since 2001.

The Volatility Index surged  3.24%. In sectoral indices, Nifty Bank rose 0.19%, Nifty IT gained 0.48%, Nifty FMCG surged 0.76%, Nifty Private Bank rose 0.19%, Nifty Auto gained 0.06%, Nifty Metal rose 0.12%, and Nifty Media gained 0.54%. Tata Motors, Tata Motor (DVR), Reliance Industries, Larsen & Toubro, Adani Enterprises, Adani Green Energy, and ITC were the most active stocks on NSE.

The NSE Nifty index was trading 124.5 points up at 19805.1, while BSE Sensex was up 467.83 points at 66823.54 at the time of writing this report. In the Nifty index, Larsen & Toubro Ltd.(up 3.82 per cent), Reliance Industries Ltd.(up 2.36 per cent), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd.(up 2.07 per cent), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd.(up 2.05 per cent) and ITC Ltd.(up 1.49 per cent) were among the top gainers.

Reliance Industries (RIL) on Wednesday jumped 2% amid a report that billionaire Mukesh Ambani may rope in Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) to pick up a minority stake in Reliance Retail. Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund is in talks to buy stake in Reliance Retail and is said to be considering a $1 billionn investment giving it a stake of about 1% and valuing the business at around $100 billion, the Financial Times reported today. Following the news, RIL shares rallied 2% to hit day's high at Rs 2,533.45 on BSE.

The IT firm's revenue may see soft growth but profit after tax (PAT) may dip on a year-on-year (YoY) basis. BENGALURU : Azim Premji’s Wipro Enterprises Ltd has offered to buy the remaining 1.55% of shares from 150 shareholders of the $10 billion privately held company at ₹1,654 a share, eight years after a similar attempt ran into opposition from longstanding investors. Last week, shareholders received a communication from Wipro Enterprises on the reduction of capital under which all non-promoter shareholders are required to tender their shares at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) on 10 August.

Mumbai: Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) on Tuesday filed an application to modify a 10 July order of the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT) against Zee Entertainment Enterprises chief executive Punit Goenka. This development follows the tribunal’s prior directive to appoint another whole-time member of Sebi to issue a final order on the matter. On 10 July, SAT dismissed a plea by Goenka and his father Subhash Chandra, chairman of the Essel Group, challenging Sebi’s 12 June order, barring them from holding positions on the board of any listed company.
