bankruptcy court recently disposed of an application filed by Phantom Studios India (PSIPL), which sought to implement a merger scheme between Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEEL) and Sony Group companies Bangla Entertainment Private (BEPL) and Culver Max Entertainment (CMEPL). The National Company Law Tribunal bench ruled that the application from a minor shareholder, seeking to enforce the scheme, is moot. It said that the shareholder's right to enforce the scheme lapsed after the companies' boards approved the scheme's withdrawal, despite his minor shareholding. PSIPL, formerly known as Mad Man Film Ventures, owned about 1.3 million shares of Zee Entertainment, valued at around ₹50 crore, at the time of the tribunal filing.

Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the response of the Centre on a plea seeking a regulatory framework to regulate the resale of concert tickets through authorised platforms and avoid illegal selling activities. The court said the replies would have to be filed within four weeks and posted the hearing on February 18, 2025, when a similar petition would be heard. The petition further sought a direction to the Centre to block unlawful online platforms involved in the purported illegal and unauthorised sale of tickets in India.

Supreme Court on Thursday refused to entertain a plea alleging contempt of its order on demolition of properties by the authorities in Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. A bench headed by Justice B R Gavai and comprising Justices P K Mishra and K V Viswanathan said it was not inclined to entertain the plea filed by the petitioner who was not directly or indirectly related to the alleged act. «We don't want to open a pandora box,» said the bench. Zee Entertainment Enterprises has filed a settlement application with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to resolve the markets regulator's ongoing investigations into alleged corporate governance lapses and financial irregularities involving the media and entertainment company's promoters. The application, submitted on Thursday without admitting or denying the allegations, is part of a process under Sebi's settlement regulations, which allow companies to reach an agreement with the regulator. This involves paying a fine or taking corrective actions in exchange for closing the probe. «It has been observed that Sebi believes that the disclosure of financial information and the business transaction in ZEEL have been dealt in a manner which may be detrimental to the investors or the securities market during the investigation period,» the company said in its settlement application.
