GTRI on Friday suggested a host of reforms like increasing GST exemption limit for firms with up to Rs 1.5 crore turnover, reducing the number of slabs, and doing away with state-wise registration to make GST more efficient, business-friendly, and contributing to economic growth. As the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST) celebrates its 7th anniversary, having launched on July 1, 2017, it has become the world's largest platform for indirect taxes with over 1.46 crore registrations, Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said. In FY24, GST collections reached Rs 20.18 lakh crore (USD 243.13 billion), with 29.85 per cent from imports, 26.92 per cent from inter-state supplies, and 43.23 per cent from within-state supplies. The dominance of within-state supplies highlights the need to simplify GST rules to promote inter-state trade, the global trade research body said.

The Central Water Commission (CWC) has released the live storage status of 150 key reservoirs across India in its latest bulletin. These reservoirs, crucial for hydroelectric projects and water supply, have a combined live storage capacity of 178.784 billion cubic meters (BCM), which is approximately 69.35 per cent of the total live storage capacity created in the country. As of Thursday, the live storage available in these reservoirs is 37.662 BCM, which is 21 per cent of their total capacity. Overall, the live storage available across the 150 reservoirs stands at 54.310 BCM against the estimated total capacity of 257.812 BCM.

Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved India’s 13th Major Port worth Rs 76,220 crores at Vadhavan in Maharashtra. India's aviation regulator, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), on Wednesday issued an advisory circular focusing on gender equality within the sector. The circular, called “Gender Equality in Civil Aviation Sector”, was issued in line with the principle of gender equality that is enshrined in the Constitution of India and ICAO’s vision for promoting equal opportunities to achieve gender equality in aviation. With this move, the DGCA aims to increase the number of women in various positions to a desirable representation of 25 per cent by 2025 within the aviation industry in India, said the circular.

ZF Group on Wednesday said it has sold a 7.5 per cent stake in its Indian subsidiary ZF Commercial Vehicles Control System (CVCS) India to increase liquidity and financial flexibility for growth. The sale of shares has no effect on ZF's control over ZF CVCS India, the company said in a statement. «ZF Group has sold 1,425,000 shares, equalling 7.5 per cent stake, in its listed Indian subsidiary ZF CVCS India to increase liquidity and financial flexibility for its growth plans. The transaction will strengthen the financial flexibility of ZF, allowing it to invest in its further growth, and in the dynamically developing Indian market,» it said. The Friedrichshafen (Germany)-headquartered firm had commenced the commercial vehicle control system business in January 2022 following the acquisition of WABCO in 2020.
