Ether (ETH), the native cryptocurrency of the layer-1 smart contract-enabled Ethereum blockchain, is pushing higher on the first day of 2024, up around 2% in the past 24 hours and trading in the mid-$2,300s, as per CoinMarketCap.

The price of Ether (ETH), the cryptocurrency that powers the smart-contract-enabled layer-1 Ethereum blockchain protocol, has been pushing higher amid a favorable macro backdrop and as investors start looking ahead to the major upcoming “Dencun” upgrade that will add new data storage capacity to the network.

The price of Ether (ETH), the native token of the Ethereum blockchain and the world’s second most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization, continues its bounce from Monday’s lows and was last trading in the $2,230s, up over 4.5% in the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.

Ether (ETH), the second most valuable cryptocurrency by market capitalization that powers the smart-contract-enabled Ethereum blockchain, was last up close to 5% on Thursday and just hit fresh highs for the year in the mid-$2,300s.

Crypto markets have begun December with a bang, with Bitcoin already up roughly 15% since the start of the month.

Bitcoin soared to its highest price so far this year, as investors took on more risk ahead of comments from Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell which could give guidance on whether the US is closer to lowering interest rates. The world’s largest cryptocurrency rallied as much as 2.87% to a high of $38,834 on Friday. Prices of other digital assets tracked by Bloomberg, such as Ether and Solana, were also up more than 2%. Bitcoin’s jump constitutes the token’s highest value since May 5 last year, just before the collapse of the TerraUSD stablecoin ecosystem rocked the sector and began a steady decline in asset prices. European stocks also advanced and the dollar fell, with Powell set to speak at Spelman College in Atlanta later on Friday. US futures edged higher while Treasuries were steady, as investors tried to gauge whether November gains across asset classes still have further to run. “The macro environment is expected to remain a robust tailwind for crypto,” said Markus Thielen, head of research and strategy at Matrixport, in a note on Friday. “Another decline in inflation is anticipated, prompting the Federal Reserve to likely initiate interest rate cuts. Combined with geopolitical crosscurrents, this healthy dose of monetary support should push Bitcoin to new highs in 2024.”

Ether (ETH), the cryptocurrency that powers the smart-contract-enabled Ethereum blockchain, has pushed back to the north of the $2,000 per token mark on Monday, extending its gains since last week’s near-$1,900 lows to above 6%.

Asset management giant Fidelity just filed a 19b-4 with the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) to set up a spot Ethereum exchange-traded fund (ETF) called the Fidelity Ethereum Trust, just one day after BlackRock filed to set up the iShares Ethereum Trust, its own spot Ethereum ETF.

Ether (ETH) continues to chop either side of the $2,000 level as bullish momentum cools following the cryptocurrency’s rejection of a retest of the 2023 highs in the $2,100s earlier this month.
